Further Information

Our practice is Person Centred ...
We specialise in providing our clients with person-centred counselling and are dedicated to offering a non-judgmental, supportive and understanding service, in a safe and confidential environment.

Person centred counselling provides the opportunity to explore creativity, personal growth and self-development. The basic foundations of the humanistic counselling approach encourage self-awareness and self-realisation, providing clients with a deeper understanding of who they are, what they feel and the opportunity to explore their potential for making and developing personal choices.
The humanistic approach focuses predominately on an individual’s unique, personal potential to explore creativity, growth and psychological understanding.

How can counselling help?
As problems arise in everyday life we often need to talk to somebody and it can be difficult to find a person we feel comfortable speaking to. It is not always easy or possible for family or friends to be able to help. Confiding in a professionally trained and confidential therapist can be the solution in providing you with the support you need.
Counselling can offer you the opportunity to explore and resolve any feelings and frustrations, from relationship troubles and problems at work to feelings of anger, loneliness, uselessness, low self-value and self-esteem.
Counselling provides a space for you to be heard; to come and talk through whatever difficulties you might be experiencing. Your counsellor is not there to advise or judge you; your counsellor is there to value your individual experience and help you to make sense of your feelings.
Our counselling service is here to help with:
Providing a private, safe space to talk through any issues or difficulties, depression, anxiety, feeling low, stress, self harm, suicidal thoughts, managing illness, grief and bereavement, eating disorders, schizophrenia, trauma, self-confidence, addictions.

What is psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy aims to help clients gain insight into their difficulties or distress, establish a greater understanding of their motivation, and enable them to find more appropriate ways of coping or bring about changes in their thinking and behaviour.
Psychotherapy involves exploring feelings, beliefs, thoughts and relevant events, sometimes from childhood and personal history, in a structured way with somebody trained to help you do is safely.
Depending on the nature of your problem, therapy can be short or long term. We provide sessions for adolescents and adults on a one to one basis, or for couples and groups whose members share similar problems.

What happens during psychotherapy?
Every session is different because every client is different, as are their problems. Your psychotherapist will encourage you to talk and explore, in a structured way, your feelings and experiences.
Your therapist may also suggest particular techniques as part of that exploration - for example, using art, imaging, dream or movement work.
Psychotherapy is not a magical cure; it is a process to help you find the capacity for improvement within yourself.

Sessions

The Initial Consultation
We offer a free 45 minute consultation where you will meet your therapist at our West Bridgford or Beeston premises. During this session you can get a feel for your therapist and decide if you wish to continue therapy with us. This consultation is for us to get an idea of what sort of therapy will best suit you and for you to ask us any questions about the types of counselling and psychotherapy that we do.

Alternatively, you may also choose to have your free 45 minute consultation over the phone.

Further Counselling Sessions
It is usual to meet once a week for sessions lasting one hour, however this can be negotiated to best suit your individual needs. Where it suits some people to come for a few weeks, others prefer to come for many months. The number of sessions you have is entirely up to you and something that can be decided with your therapist as you go.
