About Susan Whiting Counselling

There are times in our lives when we might feel unable to manage or control our feelings and emotions as well as we would wish. This may be because we have experienced a loss or bereavement that is difficult for us to come to terms with or someone important in our lives has left or let us down in some way. These losses can leave us feeling anxious, stressed, angry, depressed or even suicidal. Many people experience repeated diffculties in relationships and don’t understand what is happening.

You may have long standing problems which you would like some help to work through such as an eating disorder, continuing weight problems, or issues with sexuality or self esteem. Or life just may not feel good and you don’t quite understand why.

Talking to someone in a confidential setting about your particular problem and how this is making you feel can and does help. Having the space and the time to really reflect can be valuable in itself and may lead to substantial change and unexpected benefits.

I specialise in once-weekly open-ended or short term therapy based on psychodynamic principles . If you would prefer we can work with the CBT model.

I like to meet with a prospective client for an initial session, which usually lasts
1 hour 15 minutes. During that time both you and I are able to decide whether therapy sessions with me is the appropriate way forward. I believe it is important that you make your own choices at all times but I will try to help you in making those choices.
If we agree to ongoing work together then we will meet weekly at the same time and on the same day. Each session lasts for 50 minutes.

In 2008 I completed a training in Developing Supervision Skills with the British Association of Psychotherapists (BAP).
