About Colin Sutton

Compassionate, experienced, full-time UKCP Registered Psychotherapist offering confidential short, medium and long term psychotherapy. I have a particular interest/skills in working with anxiety, depression, drug and alcohol related issues, midlife issues and dreams.

With 32 years experience in ’people work’ I now share a private practise in a bright, spacious dedicated therapy room in a Georgian building in Central Exeter. I have a similarly large and bright therapy room in Plymouth at the ’Waterloo Wellbeing Centre’ in the Stoke area of the city with plenty of free on street parking.

I am an ’approved provider’ for several insurance companies and also provide client work for progressive companies via their EAP schemes (Employment Assistance Programmes).

My training, work experience and any achievement

Prior to training as a psychotherapist I was employed from 1981 by local and national charities in the fields of mental health, drug and alcohol misuse and homelessness. Alongside this, I was also self employed as a freelance trainer and consultant in the field of ’Drugs, Alcohol and User Involvement’. Through the course of this work I completed trainings in a diverse range of therapeutic approaches e.g. Rogerian Cousnelling’, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Behavioural approaches, etc. and on a wide range of issues such as ’Working with People with Personality Disorders’. Working with Clients with a Dual Diagnosis’, Working with Drug and Alcohol Using Clients, HIV and AIDS, Working with Issues of Self Harm etc.

On completing a Foundation course in Core Process Psychotherapy in 2001, I undertook a 4 year MA in Core Process Psychotherapy at the Karuna Institute in Devon (validated by Middlesex University. This led to registration and accreditation with UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy). I am also a member of the ’Association of Core Process Psychotherapists’ and ’Taunton Association of Psychotherapists’.

I continue to develop professionally through attendance at relevant CPD courses.
