If there are areas in your life that you feel are in need of improvement and if you feel that you could use some personal time and space for self-knowledge and growth, then counselling could be for you. This applies to a wide variety of circumstances, as everyone has a different experience, a different story, and a different road to navigate.
I will begin upon a personal level. Counselling needs to be a safe place. Perhaps the idea of counselling does not feel safe to anyone when the thought is introduced, but to me safety is of vital importance. It involves a supportive non judgemental approach to personal development ocuring on a face-to-face basis in confidential sessions.
Counselling is a process that can help you to find understanding and answers that work for you in order to sort out issues and reach decisions that affect your life. It facilitates self exploration whatever the circumstances might involve, in the interest of genuine personal growth. The final goal would be an improved quality of life, whatever you perceive that to be.
Emotions and problems that are not dealt with can result in congestion in your mind and in your life. Counselling does not offer a "magic wand" that instantly turns life into "happily ever after" but it does offer a fertile ground where you can investigate one piece of your individual life puzzle at a time. As the expression goes, mighty oaks from little acorns grow!
