About Complementary Therapies for Body & Mind

- I have been practicing complementary therapies for 22 years. I offer an confidential, therapeutic service in Reflexology, (conventional, light touch and Aqua) Shiatsu-Do, Ear Candling, Dowsing for Health and S.C.E.N.A.R. Treatments last about an hour, with the initial consultation taking a little longer.
- I usually work from my clinic, but will do home visits in special circumstances.
- I am happy to come to talk to groups about Reflexology and Shiatsu-Do. You could book a "Reflexology Party" for a group of friends, maybe a pamper evening.
- I am prepared to attend Corporate "Well-Being" Events

My training, work experience and any achievement

- Helen taught in mainstream education for twelve years before a back injury in 1990 when she chose to study Reflexology with Ann Gillanders, qualifying with the British School of Reflexology in 1991. In 1993, she became registered as a Healer with the Silver Cord Healing Association. Helen became a full time therapist in 1995. She subsequently studied Shiatsu-Do at the British School of Shiatsu-Do, graduating in 1997.
- In 1998, Helen trained with Patricia Morrell in the Morrell Technique, a light touch Reflexology, and is currently one the very few people in the world qualified in Morrell Aqua-Touch.
- More recently, Helen has developed an interest in Vibrational Medicine and is training in the practice and application of S.C.E.N.A.R. therapy, whilst acquiring training in the use of Ear Candles and Dowsing for Health along the way.
- In recent years, Helen has combined her therapeutic and educational roles in a number of schools of Complementary Therapy both in the UK and abroad, teaching practitioner training courses, adult education and general interest groups within the community. She is currently working to promote the use of Complementary Therapy in the treatment of mental illness within the N.H.S.

Reflexology
The technique of applying gentle alternating pressure to reflexes on the feet, hands or ears, in order to bring about a state of deep relaxation, stimulate the body’s own healing processes, and help the person return to a state of balance and wellbeing.
Modern reflexology has its origins in many ancient cultures, most notably the Chinese and Egyptian and has been used for millennia to bring comfort to all levels of human suffering.

Reflexology is thought to:
- Increase relaxation.
- Release tension.
- Improve sleep.
- Improve Mood.
- Assists post-operative recovery.
- Preventative health care.
- Provide an increased sense of well being.
- The Objectives of Reflexology
- The objective of Reflexology is to treat the person as a ’whole’, hence the term ’holistic’ is used to describe the therapy. By assiting the individual to adjust in the areas of their life mentioned above, the person is helped to cope with their illness or problem, which in turn helps with the perception of their condition.

You do not actually have to be ill to enjoy a reflexology treatment. Many people enjoy the benefits as part of their regular rest and relaxation; in fact the Chinese traditionally use it as preventative health care to keep the body functioning at optimum levels.
At the initial consultation, a full medical history is taken, before commencing treatment in a reclining chair. Subsequent treatments take approximately one hour.

Hot Stone Reflexology
A soothing treatment combining the benefits of reflexology with the subtle comfort of hot stone massage of the feet and lower legs.

Shiatsu-Do
Shiatsu-do, literally "the way of shiatsu" has its origins in ancient Chinese medicine. It has migrated to Japan and combined with traditional massage called "Amna". It is now used with massage and occasionally acupuncture, moxibustion, and cupping.
Shiatsu actually means "finger pressure", but combines work with the side of the hand, knees, palm healing and stretches. Pressure is applied to the "tsuboes" (access points) and the meridian system throughout the body. The meridians are a network of energy channels over the body, which have been scientifically shown to exist with electromagnets.
A therapist does not treat all the meridians of the body during one session, but will however treat the whole person.
The case history is very extensive.

Why have Shiatsu?
You do not have to be ill to have shiatsu. Generally it relaxes and rejuvenates. Results are noticeable in days and weeks rather than minutes. Recipients find that they sleep better, have increased flexibility, feel lighter, and recover from minor health problems. Some tiredness may be experienced after a treatment.
No prescriptions are given. It is not specific to a disease. It is not a massage. Usually no gadgets are used and the therapy is not intrusive.
The client is usually placed fully clothed upon a futon (padded mat) upon the floor. It is not recommended that a recipient have a large meal before treatment, which usually lasts one hour.

Ear Candling
Historically, a therapy found among the Siberian Prairies, Asia and the native North and South American Indians.
Ear candles have a purely physical function. A light suction action and the movement of the flame create a vibration of air in the Ear candle, generating a massage-like effect on the eardrum. This induces a pleasant feeling of warmth and a balance of pressure in the ears, forehead and sinuses. It is soothing and helpful for earache, headache, ear noise stress and nervousness.

The Benefits:
- Soothing
- Pressure and pain relieving in ear and head area.
- Freer nasal breathing
- Improved sense of smell
- Clearer nasal sensation.
- Relaxation

S.C.E.N.A.R.
This is a device developed for the Russian space programme. It uses biofeedback, stimulating the nervous system that encourages the body to heal itself. When used on painful areas, responses include reddening of the skin, numbness, stickiness (the device will have the feeling of being magnetically dragged), a change in the numerical readout and an increase in the electronic clattering of the device.

Aqua Detox
An Aqua Detox Foot Spa starts the process of rebalancing your body’s bio-energy. The relaxing, 30 minute treatment involves placing your feet into a spa bowl filled with warm salted water. An Energizing Cartridge creates a flow of electrons and a bioenergetic field which encourages the body to rebalance its equilibrium.
