About Helen Drake

You may be reading this because you want help and support in dealing with emotional difficulties. Perhaps you feel at an important turning point in your life, are in the midst of a crisis or find yourself experiencing difficulties at home, work or in your social life.

With all my clients, I seek to offer a supportive, face to face, non judgmental space to help you explore what bought you to therapy and to help work towards greater wholeness and integration. Indeed, as a Psychotherapist and Counsellor, my work is deeply rooted in and influenced by my yearning for aliveness, wholeness, connection and integration.

I often remind myself that, no matter what painful struggles, problems and difficulties you may be experiencing, my job as a therapist is to help awaken, foster, nourish and support the goodness and gifts that lie within each of my clients, and to find ways to connect with what it means to live a truly worthwhile, meaningful, wholesome life. In summary, to help you to remember who you really are and why you’re here.

My training, work experience and any achievement

I have been working successfully with clients in my private practice for over 15 years. I am a registered member of the United Kingdom Council of Psychotherapy (UKCP) and abide by their Code of Ethics. My work is informed by my training which includes embodied, relational, humanistic, psychodynamic and attachment approaches. I specialize in working with trauma and have a lot of additional training in generative trance and third generation applied methodologies including ethical, process oriented NLP.

In addition to my private practice, I am an experienced trainer and regularly run personal development workshops which offer a space to explore what it takes to lives a truly meaningful life. Previously, I have a background of 20 years working in senior management roles in multi-disciplinary consulting.

As part of my practice, I have ongoing supervision and also commit to my own continual professional development by regularly attending seminars and workshops with pioneers in the field.

Further Information

Perhaps one of the best ways of describing my approach is together going on a voyage of discovery. With your experience and your reality as our guide, my goal is to respectfully join and gently follow, in the present moment, your own unique subtle messages of aliveness in such a way that the central themes and issues in your life can unfold.

I am interested in and respectful of how the body can have a language of its own, often expressed in tensions, bodily symptoms and sensations and how when listened to, stories of loss, pain and disconnection can gently reveal themselves. And so I find that a ‘here and now’ present moment approach, rooted in human embodiment and relational connection provides a space where it’s possible to open to our deepest longings and grieve our deepest pains and sorrows.

My work therefore, is deeply rooted in a mixture of tenderness, fierceness and playfulness; offering opportunities to explore layers beneath your experience to understand patterns of relating to yourself and others. Often this journey helps uncover and activate partially hidden or under-developed life sustaining, helpful resources and, along with it, the possibility of deep intra-psychic and inter-personal healing, hence the potential to become more whole, more alive and more of who you really are.
