About Maythorn Therapy Clinic

Emma Bicknell is a friendly Cambridgeshire Osteopath, she believes that osteopathy is for all and how important it is to look after your body and mind. Emma has a keen interest in outdoor activities like athletics, hiking, quad biking and horse riding. Emma also has a love for animals, she looks after a few Shetland ponies at home and works as a part time Canine and Equine Osteopath.

At the Maythorn Therapy Clinic we value that everyone is an individual and that your treatments are tailored likewise.
Osteopathy is a complementary manual therapy for effective pain relief of musculoskeletal conditions.
For example: back pain, neck pain, frozen shoulder, arthritic pain, cervicogenic head aches, carpal tunnel. etc.
As we look at the entire person our treatments can also help with anxiety, migraines, bruxism, ME, MS, chronic bowel conditions, post operative/ pre-operative joint pain and many more.

By working with the body as a whole unit we look at not just the problem but how it came about. For example, knee pain can be local but the cause could be the ankle-foot complex or the lower back posture. By our knowledge of anatomy and physiology we perform an examination of your posture, movements and gait to determine what the problem is. We are hands on, therefore a manual therapy, we treat the body with our skilled hands using techniques such as joint articulation, joint manipulation, soft tissue massage or stretches. Also our techniques follow a gentle approach if required for certain cases, like functional articulation or cranial therapy.

What happens at an Osteopathic appointment:
We start by going through your case history, chatting about you and the reason for your visit. This encompasses a brief summary of your past injuries and medical history.
After the case history we perform a osteopathic examination where we look at your posture and movements around the problem area. This involves standing, sitting, walking and lying supine. Not only do we look at your posture but if required we can look in to your health by assessing blood pressure, pulse, breathing and neurological sensory and motor testing.
From then on, after a brief chat about what we found, treatment starts.
