About Jayne Newman Therapies

There is a shroud of secrecy that surrounds many counsellors isn’t there?! There needs to be boundaries of course, but first and foremost I am a human being! I have lived on the planet for 48 years and I have experienced many of the feelings, tribulations and problems that my clients have. These include divorce, single parenting, financial loss, bereavement, overcoming bad habits, career changes, family issues, domestic violence, “mid-life crisis,” relationship break ups, step parenting etc etc…

I was a Partner in a financial services firm for 18 years and felt a strong desire to help others in different ways. Initially I started this shift by helping others lose weight and become healthier, but it was easy to see that the weight and poor health was just a symptom of deeper problems, ultimately coming from disempowering thought patterns.
I was called to counselling and coaching and have been shown solutions and ways to help others through their journeys.

These solutions have been presented to me through formal education (I am a post graduate relationship, family and young person’s therapist with Relate and am currently completing a Masters Degree in Relationship and Family therapy) and also through personal development, wider reading and learning outside the box!

I am trained and qualified at Master Practitioner level in NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming.) This is very useful in conjunction with counselling and coaching in order to associate in our physiology any changes we wish to make on an intellectual level! In other words it’s all very well to TALK about the changes but what are we actually going to do and how will it show up in our lives?

I trained as a Life Coach and Strategic Interventionist with Tony Robbins, Cloe Madanes and Mark Peysha which is really useful in bringing tools and strategies to situations. It takes a more creative and active approach than just counselling which is a talking therapy.

More recently I have noticed that there is a global shift happening and there is more and more confusion. For hundreds of thousands of years, many great teachers have written about inner wisdom and “collective consciousness” and to us in the secularised West this sounds a bit “out there!” What I have come to understand is that it’s not OUT there at all – its inside. When we shut off the noise and stop listening to everyone else’s stories about us – who we are supposed to be, how we are supposed to look, feel and act, we actually begin to answer our own questions from the inside out.

Mindfulness has become the new “buzzword.” For centuries the great Masters have meditated. They knew that the secret to happiness and fulfilment is connection to ourselves, not the pursuit of materialism. Steve Jobs, the founder and creator of Apple meditated, Einstein also and so many other extraordinary people meditated. These are people who saw humanity as being connected – we don’t need to compete, we need to shift our perspective in order to change our lives.

I also teach meditation and am an Anusha and Reiki Practitioner. I have channelled these ancient energies with great success to help rebalance emotions, heal physical pain and help with other ailments such as skin problems.

I feel my credentials are less important than actually being able to share these skills, knowledge and experience in order to serve you. For some clients counselling and talking is enough, for others, it may be useful to bring in these other resources too.

My training, work experience and any achievement

Are you feeling stuck, frustrated and unhappy in your life and your relationships?

Does it feel like life’s getting on top of you?

We all develop coping strategies throughout our lives, but when they stop working it can be difficult to figure out what to do next.

Could you benefit from a place to take some time-out?

Or are you ready to make some changes?

Perhaps you just need a space to be listened to and explore your thoughts and feelings?

There are many ways to get back on a front foot again and the way we will work together depends on what’s going on for you right now and what you need.

It’s my passion and privilege to help you understand and overcome any difficulty you are facing, so you can live a happy life.

One of my favourite quotes is from Jim Rohn:

"The same wind blows on us all, it’s how we set our sail that counts."

My mission is to help you set your sail in a more helpful way.

A Little About me and the Way I Work

As you have probably guessed my name is Jayne Newman. I’ve been on the planet for over 49 years and like everyone else I’ve had, and will continue to have, my share of pain, overwhelm and challenges - that’s life!

I can work with you individually, as a couple or as a family.

I am committed to working with you in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental way.

I work with Relate and have a Masters Degree in Relationship and Family Therapy. I’m currently in the final few months of my Diploma in Cognitive Hypnotherapy (It’s not like Derren Brown or Paul McKenna - just a way of connecting with the place we all live most of the time - on auto pilot!)

In addition to counselling, I am trained by Tony Robbins and Cloe Madanes as a Life Coach and Strategic Interventionist and by John Grinder as an NLP Master Practitioner. I’m also interested in spiritual approaches and so I offer both Reiki and Anusha energy healing and balancing.

We can work on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period, with the aim of inspiring you to live a full and happy life.

I am experienced in helping clients who have experienced difficulties with:

Stress
Relationships - separation and divorce, affairs, step families
Panic Attacks
Anxiety
Bereavement
Redundancy
Life Changes - illness
Life Stages - retirement, children leaving home
Depression, and
Addiction.

My practice is within easy reach of Tring, Berkhamsted, Aylesbury and Hemel.

How I help...

Because we all need different things at different times, over the years I have evolved and trained in a number of disciplines.

Sometimes it feels like there is a shroud of secrecy surrounding many counsellors and so we actually know very little about the person with whom we book an appointment, other than their qualifications.

My aim is to be transparent, so long as it is helpful to you, whilst maintaining professional boundaries.

My clients say that they find my style helpful because I don’t just sit there and nod for weeks on end, expecting you to find your own way with minimal input from me. Nor will I impose my own life choices on you.

What’s really going on for you?

The intention is to spend some time talking about what’s going on for you. We’ll then have a clearer idea of what areas it might be helpful to explore and what types of solutions might benefit you.

My approach will differ depending on you. Generally though, I notice that we are lacking a basic balance in life. And I mean balance in all areas, so:

work/life
mind/body/spirit
left brain/right brain
fun/excitement/stress/peace/calm/quiet and so on

I’ll help you achieve balance using various strategies listed below. For some clients all of these are needed, for others, we can pick up useful bits and work on them together.

Initially, we’ll talk/listen so I can really understand and hear what’s happening for you. This is always a starting point and if there is a lot of stuff to unload, it can take a couple of sessions. Of course this is something that unfolds piece by piece each session, so is really an ongoing process.

Depending on what comes up we’ll go through some really useful processes like:

Working on your Wheel of Life - this is really identifying what is working in your life and what isn’t working so well.

Uncovering your top 2 Six Human Needs – these are your drivers, they motivate you to do what you do and can determine your behaviour

Values Illicitation Exercise – we’ll uncover where your values might be in conflict. Some people have so many rules that are in conflict, they have no way of winning at the game of life! An example might be that they are flat broke and hate being in debt but at their core, they have a value that says money is the root of all evil.

We can use genograms to uncover family patterns and how they may be holding you back, making you unwell or unhappy.

The Jigsaw Person Exercise is great for looking at the way in which you have given away or suppressed bits of yourself in order to be loved, approved of and accepted. We might then go looking for these lost pieces of ourselves in our partners and wonder why we end up hating the very bits that attracted us in the first place. It’s because we never resolved the issues that led to their suppression/disownership in the first place.

Beyond the counselling and coaching strategies outlined above, we can move towards NLP patterns. NLP is really useful in breaking patterns/bad habits at the unconscious level. Some processes involve going into a light trance where you are relaxed enough to let go of your worries and access your unconscious to make changes. This can be helpful for releasing all sorts of things like:

Cravings and sometimes addictions
Panic attacks
Stress
Hayfever
Allergies
Illnesses
Negative thought patterns
Fears and phobias

Moving into more spiritual or holistic therapies, I may recommend we have a session or two of Reiki and Anusha. These are ancient healing energies that have been rechannelled.

This form of therapy is based on metaphysics, part of which is the idea that we are all made of the same stuff as the Earth and rest of the Universe, which are atoms. The only difference between us and a piece of wood is the frequency at which the atoms are vibrating. The curious thing is that atoms are 99.99% space and therefore so are we!! We are all simply vibrating energy and therefore it isn’t a far leap to understand how energy healers, the most famous of whom was Jesus, are able to work through our energy centres called chakras to rebalance our energy, which is the cause of dis-ease in the body.

Benjamin, Hertfordshire, September 28 2015

I was having several panic attacks a day and by working through some past issues and using some NLP processes in 7 weeks they had gone

1
Barbara and John, Bedfordshire, September 28 2015

Our marriage had become so difficult I was actually thinking about leaving after 29 years. We got to the bottom of our problems and were able to be very honest with ourselves. We had couples counselling with Jayne and have created a new marriage, which is a lot more harmonious and fun than before.

1
Carol and Dave, Aylesbury, September 28 2015

5 children and 2 marriages that hadn’t worked. I was feeling very bad about myself. Through our sessions I was able to see the patterns that I was repeating and learned how to think about things in better ways. We decided to split, but it was the right choice for us.

Kirsty, Hertfordshire, September 28 2015

My skin looks so much clearer; my spots have reduced so much.
