About Judith Brooker

I work in a comfortable, confidential and secure counselling room in my own home. There is easy, free parking either in the drive or in the street and nearby bus routes include 12, 13, 5 and 9. If you do select me as your counsellor I will work flexibly and creatively with you to make your counselling work for you. Working from home in private practice gives me complete control over my hours of work and enables me to provide a service which is truly responsive to the counselling needs of my clients. If you want to come at the same time each week, you can have a regular appointment at the same time each week. If you work shifts or have other responsibilities which mean you need a different time each week, we can arrange a different time each week. I offer appointments during the day and also in the evenings and weekends.

Deciding to see a counsellor and finding someone who suits you is often not an easy process. Maybe you have been thinking about it for some time; maybe a friend or relative has suggested you try counselling; or maybe something has recently happened that has upset you or pushed you into making a decision about counselling. If you come to see me we will start from where you are today – What has brought you here? How can I help you?

As a person centred counsellor I aim to create the conditions in which you can feel confident to work at your own pace and deal with whatever is troubling you. Each session is like an extended conversation in which you decide where you want to start and my role is to listen and support you and never to judge you.

I am a qualified counsellor and a Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and I work to their code of ethics. I have experience of working within health and the voluntary sector and as a mental health advocate. I have counselling experience in a women’s centre, in a general counselling organisation and in a drug and alcohol support organisation.

I work with individuals and I offer relationship counselling to couples. One to one counselling sessions with individuals usually last one hour and cost £35. Sessions for couples are £50 for 60 minutes and £60 for 90 minutes. (The first session for couples will be one hour and cost £50)

In my research I discovered that counselling sessions lasting an hour for individuals and ninety minutes for couples do suit most people. If however we find that you work better in shorter or longer sessions we can change the length of your appointments to suit you. Each individual is different and my aim is to ensure that your appointments meet your needs.

My training, work experience and any achievement

I have been working in private practice from a counselling room in my own home for ten years.

I qualified as a counsellor at Keighley college in 2007 and I also have an MA in counselling from York St John university.

I have worked as a counsellor in a women’s centre and in a drug and alcohol support organisation.

I have particular interest in women’s counselling issues and the challenges facing those who are caring for others.

I regularly attend seminars and short courses to update my skills and awareness.
