About Michael Huxley

Are you seeking a skilled counsellor and psychotherapist? I work in Huddersfield, Leeds and Wakefield.
Counselling can lead to increased self understanding, awareness, and acceptance through resolving difficult feelings from the present or in the past allowing life to move forward more positively.
I have been practising for nearly 25 years, working with people who experience anxiety, depression, stress or lack of confidence, which come from different life experiences and may affect how you experience your life now and relate in different ways - at home, with family, friends, at work, or in all of these. I am able to help you to talk about personal, emotional and relationship problems.
Counselling can provide a safe and conidential setting to explore the difficulties you are facing. I aim to facilitate a trusting relationship so that we are able to undertake the work to think about and explore thoughts, feelings and behaviours you are experiencing and in relation to others. Sometimes the reasons we think and act as we do can be difficult to understand and our work together can offer insights which can lead to change.

These are some of the difficulties people come to talk to me about to make changes for themselves:

* lacking confidence
* difficulties in relationships and sustaining them
* dementia
* domestic violence
* bereavement and grief
* later life and old age issues
* unemployment, facing redundancy or debt
* difficulty in expressing feelings
* bullying
* loneliness and isolation
* use of pornography
* abuse or unhappiness in childhood
* adult survivors of childhood abuse (sexual, emotional, physical, psychological)
* workplace well being
* stress at work
* marital issues
* men’s issues
* anxiety
* depression
* rape or serious sexual assault
* sexuality and sexual orientation
* gay and lesbian issues.

The first session, which lasts for about 60 minutes, can help to clarify the difficulties you are experiencing and gives you the opportunity to tell me why you would like counselling at this time, what you hope to get from it and the changes you would like to make. Sometimes this is all that is needed, or it can be a starting point for you to undertake some work with me. For some people, however, these are difficult questions and may not have ready or easy answers. Having met me you can decide at that point if you would like to do some counselling work with me or take more time to make your decision.

I offer short and open ended/long term counselling depending on the difficulties you are experiencing and what you want to achieve through counselling.

Day and evening appointments are available.
