About Glynis Greening. MA. MBACP Accredited. UKRCP reg

I am a fully trained psychotherapist with specialist training in relationships - understanding how they work, what goes wrong when they break down, and how to improve them. I work with two-somes: couples, partners, friends and siblings and also with individuals who want to understand and feel better about themselves, and their relationships, past and present.

Good relationships give us the love and understanding which we all need throughout life; when they begin to crumble we can feel insecure, vulnerable and miserable. The quality of our close relationships underpins our ability to cope with all other difficulties and problems. Our couple-relationship in particular, not only affects how good we feel about ourselves but is crucial to a happy family life and secure children.

Relationship therapy helps to enable people to understand themselves and their partner, friend or sibling, at a much deeper and more intimate level, and in turn feel understood. With better understanding of self and other comes improved tolerance, compassion and empathy and the possibility of regaining intimacy, trust and mutual dependency. I ask both individuals and couples to commit to the therapy for six weeks after which we can review the insights made and decide whether they have discovered and changed enough or would like to continue to work more deeply; though, of course, you are free to leave at any time.

I work with ex-partners - its not always easy to co-operate with decisions about shared children once a couple have split up.

I see those approaching a commitment, like marriage or a civil partnership, who wish to understand their relationship better so they can ensure it continues well.

I also see those for whom their relationship with their siblings or parents was and possibly continues to be troublesome or painful.

I also work with siblings, looking for a safe, contained and neutral space with a professional third who appreciates the importance of the sibling relationship ;

I also see partners who are parents experiencing family problems.; it’s an alternative to family therapy which avoids introducing small children to therapy. I help you the parents to understand better what’s happening within the family so that you can then implement the changes.

My training, work experience and any achievement

About me.
I am a fully trained and well qualified counselor and psychotherapist with 25 years experience helping both individuals and couples with emotional, mental health or relationship problems. I’ve worked as a couple counselor in Relate for over 20 years and after my psychotherapy training at Canterbury University I worked for 5 years in an NHS psychotherapy department working with individuals. I have also studied for three years at the Tavistock Center for Couple Relationships in London - an internationally acclaimed center of excellence for couple therapy.

Further Information

I work in a private, countryside setting, on the edge of Torquay. I do not have a secretary or receptionist which means sometimes your call cannot be immediately taken, as I am not always going to be available - but this also means that you are guaranteed complete privacy and confidentiality.
