I would consider myself an Integrative Counsellor with a strong grounding in CBT and Mindfulness.
This means I have a broad range of tools available to help facilitate healing.

I have had success working collaboratively with a number of clients with different presenting problems including bereavement, depression, low self-esteem, bullying, anger, stress, general anxiety, social anxiety, agoraphobia, panic attacks, PSTD, addiction, suicidal feelings, self-harm and more.

I have a proven track record with Torfaen Mind and Cruse Bereavement. References are available on request.

My training, work experience and any achievement

I currently have a placement Connections Counselling alcohol and substance misuse counselling service based in Cardiff and also work as a Mental Health Mentor at University of South Wales. I have worked in a variety of organisations as a counsellor including The Samaritans (Listening Volunteer), Hold Out a Hand Bereavement (HOAH), Cruse Bereavement and Torfaen Mind. I also maintain a small private practice based in central Newport.

In 2012 I obtained an AQA Level 4 Diploma in CBT and am in the process of completing a Post Graduate Diploma in CBT at the University of South Wales, which has BACP Accreditation. Additionally I am working towards individual accreditation with the BACP.

After years of alcohol and drugs abuse it finally took its toll. Flash backs , Paranoia , severe anxiety and it wasn’t getting any better and that was well into 3 years of sobriety which I couldn’t make any sense of. Till finally I knew I had to see some one to try and make sense of what was going round in my head, When i first met Meredith i felt quite comfortable and by the next session i felt really at ease . He went through every issue with me one step at a time and made me realise why i was suffering and how to deal with my issues most importantly he knows nearly all the answers we don’t that’s why he is so good and making us realise how emotions work and how to react to them. And explains it all to us in its simple form so we can understand. And above all he is a really nice genuine person. Take it from a person who pushed things a bit to much, He will give you all the tools you need to get back on track . thanks meredith

Have suffered Panic Attacks, Social anxiety with certain situations for a while. Didn’t understand why as I have always been outgoing, confident person. Meredith identified the issue within the first session. He helped me overcome panic attacks and social anxiety with different techniques. Highly recommended. And I have my life back!

Having experienced abuse as a child I had devoted myself to caring for others. In doing this I had completely lost or possibly never had any idea about what I wanted or needed. I had little understanding of myself. I had undertaken counselling with several counsellors some very helpful some unsatisfactory. Meredith however supported me with an amazing insight, compassion and a he seemed to have natural understanding of me, so much so that I began to understand myself, know what I wanted and began to really explore my potentials. I consequently moved out of an unfulfilling relationship and began to value, look after and even gain acceptance of self. I realised that caring for others was a distraction from my own healing and now aim not to allow the past harm to control my future. I still have work to do in relation to my past but I no longer hold on to the fear. it was a difficult process but he did not pressure me to facing more than I was capable of coping with and I felt confident in his support throughout the difficult times. I have also developed my own coping skills and I am a much stronger more confident person. I still have down days but can now manage them. I highly recommend Meredith. The world looks better now. I have hope, self respect and have developed self awareness. I like me and for that I thank you Meredith.

I found Meredith incredibly easy to talk to, encouraging and completely non-judgemental. This meant that I could relax and be completely honest in our session. He suggested new ways of approaching situations which enabled me to think about them differently and consequently be less hard on myself. I felt that he worked WITH me and used techniques that I was comfortable with and happy to try. He has helped me deal with my unrelenting standards, find a new level of acceptance of my learning disabilities, and most significantly of all to have the power to change the way that I think in situations that are stressful for me and have caused me to be hard on myself both mentally & physically. Our sessions have helped me make positive & sustainable improvements in my life. I have also learnt a lot about myself and have developed a level of mindfulness which I know will help me minimise and even avoid problems in the future. I feel that the benefit of our sessions will continue AND grow. I cannot recommend him highly enough. Thank you, Meredith.

Having suffered from anxiety in silence for many years, it had started to take over my life. I would worry about situations and play out scenarios in my mind that hadn’t actually happened. The whole thing started to make feel depressed, stressed and overwhelmed. I was bad tempered with my family as I felt they were putting more and more demands on me, I just wanted to be left alone. I was alone with my thoughts when I realised that I couldn’t go on like that anymore, I contacted Meredith and we met up for about 6 sessions. He made me realise that I wasn’t going crazy and it was my thought process that needed to change. I learnt CBT techniques (amongst other things)which has freed me from the anxiety. I feel so much better about everything now and I cope with situations in a more positive and realistic way. I recommend Meredith, he’s a good listener with a good understanding about things, he’s non judgemental and so easy to talk to.
