About Maria Thomas Counselling

"Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.” – Carl Bard

Thank you for visiting my profile.

Life often presents a variety of challenging experiences that can leave you feeling confused and troubled about how to move forward. Seeking out extra support is the first step in your process towards healing, growth and creating the life you want.

My priority as a therapist is to restore hope. Hope for positive change, for relief from emotional suffering, for new possibilities and new abilities. I believe in each person’s capacity for growth. If your symptoms or problems have started to overwhelm you, if you have been left reeling from a past or present trauma, or if you simply feel lost, misunderstood, or in doubt about what to do next - I would like to help you regain balance and keep moving forward.

I can offer time-limited or ongoing therapy in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space to work through issues which you feel are affecting your life, relationships and work. My practice offers a safe, one to one compassionate and supportive environment in which clients can address their concerns and grow in positive directions. Trained in a wide range of therapeutic models I tailor my approach to the individual. In a therapeutic relationship with me, you can expect an emphatic, non-judgmental and supportive professional who will work with you.

As trust is established it is the relationship itself and the safe space created within our sessions that become the element of healing. Together we will access your strengths to support mindfulness, self-acceptance and empowerment.

We will work collaboratively to create strategies, goals and solutions that can be applied in and out of the therapy session.

I believe in the inherent health of each person and focus on building individual strengths. I work with individuals, couples, families and groups in recognising and changing the patterns of behaviour that negatively affect their lives and/or interferes with their goals.

From pain and struggle are also resilience, strength and even opportunity. Engaging in a therapeutic relationship is an act of courage and hope that can lead to relief and lasting change.
We can all benefit from a little guidance and fresh perspective at times, so please contact me to discuss what you expect from therapy and together we can begin the journey.
