About Sophia Mcdonald

I specialise in working with men and women who struggle with their relationship I offer practical tools, as well as guiding you to understanding and managing all the life situations and experiences that so many of us struggle with and which often impact to our eating and our weight, such as anger, depression, bereavement, stress, parenting and relationships. Working together, we explore the challenges and concerns you face, in a safe and supportive environment, so that you can live with a greater sense of well being and self-confidence.

I am kind and encouraging as well as being focused and professional and I have a good sense of humour. I work with each client as an ally, in the way that best suits you, recognising that we are all different and as such there is no one way to work through our challenges or achieve our goals. For some clients a brief course of therapy is enough. Six or twelve sessions provides just what they need. For others longer term therapy offers ongoing support and development.

Why work with me? Finding the right person to work with is so important. All counsellors and psychotherapists work in different ways and taking the time to find the therapist who is just right for you can make all the difference

With the expertise acquired from counselling training and ongoing personal/professional development I work to foster a positive therapeutic relationship "a working alliance", an experience that can be taken forward to improve relationships with significant others having discovered the all important "relationship with self - it’s an inside job". It works, it really does, as Freud said "therapy is a talking cure", give it a go you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

My life today is satisfying, balanced and relaxed in a way that I cannot imagine I would have achieved without the therapy and the hours of personal development work that I have done. I practicing as a psychotherapist is the most fulfilling work I have experienced.

I offer one to one sessions at my practice in Bromley and Dulwich . We start by having an initial exploratory session. This will be an opportunity for you to begin to explore the issues that you are struggling with, as well as allowing you to know me and how I work. There are no hard and fast rules. Sometimes brief solution focused therapy may be what is needed and will only require six to twelve sessions, other times, as the therapy progresses, it may become apparent that a longer time frame is needed. However many sessions you have, we continue to review our work together on a regular basis so that you and I both ensure that you are getting what you want from the therapy.
