About Antonio Sanchez
My principal way of working is to try to develop a healing relationship with my client. It is in the forming of that relationship that I hope that a client will learn about themselves and develop more fulfilling ways of living. I aim to work with my client in a way that fosters trust and engagement between us, themselves, and life. I try to create a space that enables reflection, understanding and the challenging of unhelpful ways of life.
I was born in London in 1966 of Spanish parents. I speak fluent Spanish as well as English and I offer individual and couples (straight and gay) counselling to adults in both languages. I offer open ended counselling: short-term and long-term, as well as time-limited therapy.
My first degree is in Religious Studies and I have an interest in spirituality. I trained to be a counsellor at the Minster Centre (http://www.minstercentre.org.uk/index.asp) where I gained an integrative training, learning how to weave together different ways of working whilst developing personal integrity. Whilst I trained at the Minster Centre I did a placement at the East London Out Project. I have a particular interest in working with issues connected with sexuality.
My training, work experience and any achievement
I have an MA in Integrative Counselling gained in 2002. I have worked in the field of addiction for nearly ten years. This has been for NHS services as well as for KCA and Phoenix House, leading charities working with people with issues with drugs and
alcohol. I worked with a wide range of people including those with mental health issues who were described as having dual diagnosis. As part of this work I completed courses in Motivational Interviewing and working with people with personality disorder.
I gained a certificate in evidence based therapies, namely cognitive behavioural therapy, in 2009 from the University of Reading. In 2012 I undertook general counselling at The Awareness Centre in Clapham, South London.
