About Shona Lowe Counselling Therapies

Do you feel alone with your problem? Therapy can help you...

Are you feeling anxious, suffering from symptoms of stress or have low mood and need to talk to someone who will listen to you and understand your experience?
Do you think that you need support to overcome a difficulty or come to terms with a life event, such as a bereavement, trauma or loss?
Do you have relationship difficulties?
I will support you to explore whatever is troubling you in a way which is at your pace and in an environment which is safe, confidential and in which you will feel secure enough to begin to make the changes you want to make in your life, cope with events which you are dealing with, or perhaps look together to resolve issues which you have struggled with for some time.

Hello. I am Shona.

Going for therapy is a big step and it can help to know a little about your therapist before you meet them. I have a background in teaching, human resources and training in private and third sectors before I trained and qualified as a counselling therapist. I have a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and I am an accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. I follow the BACP Ethical Framework and I have regular clinical supervision to ensure that I am providing the best therapeutic support for my clients.

One of the most important things for someone starting therapy to know is that he or she will really be listened to. I know how important it is to be listened to and this is why I trained in, what’s called, a ‘talking therapy’ (Humanistic therapy). I am committed to supporting people to express themselves in a safe and supportive environment.

Life can be full of challenges, and it can be difficult to find a time and space to think, explore and understand what is going on for you. A weekly therapy session with me will give you the opportunity to do this. At times, this may feel really difficult and you may doubt that things are getting easier or that you are making progress. However, part of what I offer my clients is support and understanding to face the most difficult moments in their lives and time to work through the issues which are most distressing.

From your initial contact with me, your privacy will be respected and anything you disclose will be held in confidence. Please feel free to contact me for further information regarding confidentiality and privacy in therapy.

My training, work experience and any achievement

Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling – Level 4 CPCAB (2010)

Training in facilitation & teaching of mindfulness meditation 2006-2012.

Accredited Member of BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy).

I have specialist knowledge and experience of working with individuals who need therapeutic support after having experienced:

·trauma (such as accidents, victims or witnesses of crime, violence, conflict)

·bereavement

·loss of someone or something important to them (such as a job, relationship, sense of identity, home, status or income)

I have wide experience of work with people to understand and find ways to cope with:

·anxiety and panic attacks

·stress (at work or at home)

·relationship issues (affairs, betrayals, changes to relationships, emotional/intimacy issues)

I enable people who are finding it hard to adjust to life events such as a change in lifestyle, retirement, or who need support in coping with relationship or work difficulties to take the next steps to cope and to come to terms with what has happened.
