I understand how asking for help can be extremely hard, especially if you are experiencing difficulty with anger, anxiety, panic, stress, or depression.

Perhaps, you are feeling lost and alone, particularly if you are worrying about a valued relationship or about making new relationships. Perhaps a change in your life is proving too challenging to cope with, such as a bereavement, divorce, illness, redundancy, new job, or retirement. Or, perhaps you would like to talk through an important problem that is on your mind.

In each of these situations I can help you make sense of your experiences and feelings and gain a new sense of perspective no matter what the problem is. I can help you to achieve an outcome that is meaningful and relevant to you. I work with wide range of issues with men, women, young people, couples and families from many different backgrounds and life experiences.

I am a deeply caring and compassionate counsellor, and will treat whatever you bring to the counselling session with confidence and respect.

In addition to my counselling skills, I will also bring my personality and warmth to your counselling experience.

My training, work experience and any achievement

I am a BACP qualified Counsellor who brings to bear deep professional and personal experiences to help get to the root of clients troubles.

My approach is simple. I use common sense and trust that it is the counselling relationship that will prove fundamental to the counselling process.

Areas of counselling I can help with include:

Abuse
Addiction(s)
Adoption Issues
Affairs and Betrayals
Anger Management
Anxiety & Panic Attacks
Bereavement, Grief & Loss
Bullying
Children & Young People’s Related Issues

I have a passion for my counselling work and it shows. My aim is to help clients find a positive outcome no matter why clients have come to counselling. No matter how deep you feel you have sunk, I will help you find a way back up.

For many clients, between one and six counselling sessions with a counsellor are sufficient to make a real difference to what was troubling them. I also offer longer term counselling where appropriate. The process of therapy can help you understand what is happening for you, build self-confidence and work towards achieving the life you desire.

If you are interested in the theoretical basis of my work:

My core training is Integrative which is informed by Psychodynamic, Humanistic, Gestalt and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

We can either decide together the most appropriate approach for our work, or this can be left to me to decide, based on what you hope to achieve.

Frequently asked questions...

How much will the session cost?
My standard fee for individuals is £40 per session, and £60 for couples.

Is your office inside your home?
No, I counsel from informal and relaxed therapy rooms in Braintree and Colchester town centre.

What are the addresses where you counsel from?
Braintree Office Address:
209 Lakes Innovation Centre
Lakes Road
Braintree
Essex
CM7 3AN

Colchester Office Address:
Life-Force Centre
3 East Hill
Colchester

CO1 2QL

How long does a session last?
Each individual counselling session lasts 50 minutes, and couples & families 90 minutes.

Will I have to lie on a couch?
No, we will each have a comfortable armchair.

I need to make a difficult choice, will the counsellor tell me what to do?
The aim of counselling is not for your counsellor to tell you what to do, but to help you explore the situation so that you can reach your own decision as to what to do for the best.

I don’t want my GP to know about the counselling I’m having. Does my GP have to know?
I would not inform your GP that you are attending counselling. The only time I would contact your GP would be if I had a serious concern regarding your physical, emotional or mental wellbeing.

How confidential is it really?
Confidentiality is really important to me. As a professional member of the BACP I am required to attend monthly supervision where I discuss my client work. However, all clients are presented under a pseudonym and any identifying details are never described.

Do I need to ask my GP to refer me?
I operate an open access policy which means you can self-refer to counselling.

I work all week and have children to look after. Do you have any sessions at weekends?
I offer counselling session in the evenings during the week and I also work Saturdays.

How long will it be before I have my first session?
I always aim to arrange an initial counselling assessment session within 24 hours of your call or email.

How many sessions will I need?
Once you have attended your initial counselling assessment session you will be offered either short term counselling, usually 6 weeks or open longer term counselling depending on what is most applicable.

What happens if I cancel a session?
If you are unable to attend simply contact me by phone asap and let me know.

How do I pay?
Counselling fees are paid directly to me either at the start or end of each session and payment should be by cash or cheque made payable to Lyn Hemeury.

Will you write reports for me?
I can write a report for you about the therapeutic work if you need them to for some professional reason. Normally there would be an additional charge for this service. Counsellors may keep brief case notes about clients sessions however, these would be stored in a secure location and will be destroyed after 7 years.

I’m in a wheelchair. Do you have disabled parking?
Braintree Office - The office in Braintree has disabled car parking spaces at the rear of the building, where access to the building and to my office on the second floor via a lift is accessible by wheelchair users.

Colchester Office - The office in Colchester has a disabled-friendly policy and does its best to accommodate the needs of disabled clients. The building is furnished with a disabled ramp at the rear of the premises, and providing the wheelchair is not wider than 27 inches, then disabled access is possible. Depending on the time of day, disabled parking can be provided, alternatively visitors can be dropped off at the back entrance to the Centre. There is therapy room available on the ground floor of the building for clients who cannot manage the stairs. Visitors who can manage the three front steps to the building and have a disabled blue car-parking badge can park outside the front of the building and can then enter via the front door.

Someone will be bringing me to my sessions. Is there somewhere they can wait for me?
Braintree Office – Visitors to the Braintree office are welcome to wait in the reception on the ground floor.

Colchester Office - Visitors to the Colchester office are welcome to wait in either the Rainbow Room if it is available or alternatively they can wait in the Centre’s kitchen where they can make a hot drink whilst waiting for a friend or relative.
