About Bill Baker
I am an experienced BACP accredited counsellor/psychotherapist working in Dorking, Surrey and Central London. I work with a wide range of issues and with individuals and couples.
My clients come from all walks of life, nationalities and sexual orientation.
In London and Dorking I have evening appointments available especially for professionals who can only fit in appointments at the end of the working day.
My training, work experience and any achievement
My academic qualifications are a B.Sc.in Integrative Counselling from the University of Surrey and an MA from the University of Sussex.
I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and and on the Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. iI am also a member of the AIP - the Association of Independent Practitioners and the UKAHPP - UK Association of Humanistic Psychology Practitioners.
Ethical Practice: I adhere to the BACP Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct and I have an enhanced Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) clearance.
I have specialist experience in the areas of relationships, couple counselling, bereavement, mid-life crisis, stress, anxiety and personal identity issues, trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder and the prevention of PTSD, counselling young people and business mentoring.
A therapist is helped by having a broad experience of life. I have worked in the corporate world, in education and in the media and have met with business, political and scientific leaders. I have worked in the USA, Europe and in Russia and Siberia.
The knowledge I have gained may sometimes be useful, the wisdom I have gleaned is integral to my role as a psychotherapist.
Counselling Languages: I now counsel only in English using my knowledge of French, German and Russian.
This particularly suits clients who are perhaps native speakers of these languages but also speak some or perhaps even good English but feel more comfortable with a therapist that can understand when thoughts need to be expressed in their own language. It also works well when counselling involves couples where one say is English speaking and the other is perhaps native Russian, German or French.
My language knowledge was learnt from living in those countries for a period and acquiring a knowledge of the culture and way of life. This is most useful for understanding the cultural differences which may effect a person’s image of their world and often can get in the way of couple communication and mutual understanding.
