About Anne Roberts LLB, Cert ED, CSCT Cert, REL Cert, MBACP

I am a relationship and personal counsellor, specialising in both couple counselling and individual counselling, with eighteen years’ experience. I have a private practice where I offer affordable counselling, and also counsel for Relate with whom I trained and qualified. As Relate is recognised as an organisation specialising in individual and couple relationship issues. I can offer couple counselling and personal counselling experience gained through intensive and long-term work.

In my practice in Axminster, I offer flexible hours in a comfortable and friendly environment. I tailor counselling to each individual. Both to the number of counselling sessions and to people’s specific issues.

What is counselling?
Counselling is an opportunity to help you identify, clarify and focus on the issues of your situation and work through appropriate steps for change. My clients frequently say how beneficial it is to be able to express themselves in a safe and confidential environment without feeling judged or embarrassed. Counselling offers professional guidance to both explore and understand your situation and find a positive way forward.

How can counselling help?

Relationship counselling:
Relationships are at the heart of our lives and when not functioning well can cause distress and unhappiness which can pervade the rest of our lives. Counselling can help if, as a couple or individual, you want to work through issues within your relationship. You may be facing a crisis or be at a make or break stage. You could be suffering from issues of communication breakdown, control or abuse, sexual problems or be contemplating ending your relationship. One of you may have had an affair and you are not sure how to move forward. Working to change and improve these situations can be initially painful, but then have a truly transformative effect.

Family members and separated parents:
My counselling is appropriate for all aspects and stages of relationships, including relationships with family members and other adults, and parenting when separated or divorced.

Individual personal counselling:
Counselling can help you personally if you feel you want to look at issues, either past or present which are affecting the quality of your personal life. These could be loss or bereavement, depression, low self-confidence or self-esteem, fear of confrontation, lack of assertiveness, anger management, repetitive or obsessive thought processes, the ending of, or recovery from a relationship and the re-defining of yourself emotionally, physically or spiritually. It is a process whereby you can gain insight into your situation, build an understanding of yourself, your thought processes and behaviour, and explore avenues for change which have a positive and beneficial impact on your daily life.

My training, work experience and any achievement

- I am a member of, and work within the ethical guidelines of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP).
- As well as being a Relate trained and qualified counsellor of eighteen years’ experience and a member of BACP, I have a Law Degree, a post graduate certification in education and adult training qualifications.
- I run training courses in mentoring, counselling skills and parenting apart.
- I am also involved in relationship intervention programmes within prison and with prisoners’ families in the community.I also run CPD courses for counsellors.

Theoretical approaches:
I integrate various theoretical approaches in my counselling, including systemic theory, attachment and loss, person centered counselling, psychodynamic counselling and transactional analysis, also using aspects of cognitive behavioural therapy and neuro linguistic programming.
