About Louise Carroll CBT, Hypnotherapy, Coaching and Counselling

LOUISE CARROLL BA (Hons),dip.CBH, dip.LC, m.GHR, m.CHSC

Hello and welcome to my page. I am a qualified therapist specialising in CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), a highly effective way to help with a wide range of emotional problems including all forms of anxiety, confidence/low self esteem, depression, work stress, relationship problems and any issues which are holding you back in your day to day life. Based in Putney SW15 , I see clients from all over London and Surrey, specialising in adults and teenagers.

See my website www.louisecarroll.co.uk for full details and testimonials, several of which can be viewed in the review section here and below, although many clients understandably prefer to remain anonymous due to the sensitive nature of this work.

Fully trained and qualified in CBT, hypnotherapy, counselling and coaching, I use an integrated approach to create solutions for each individual’s unique needs., which may also also include mindfulness and self hypnosis. Other areas treated include OCD, IBS, weight loss, addictions, habit breaking, phobias (including fear of flying) and smoking cessation, which can be achieved in one session.

CBT can be applied to many different problems, including panic attacks, health anxiety, performance anxiety, blushing, exam stress and general anxiety disorder. I provide a supportive, confidential and non-judgmental environment in which to explore concerns and issues, balanced with warmth and empathy. This is an invaluable part of the overall process for my clients.

Coaching helps you to build self-awareness, confidence, and develop new interpersonal skills. The process involves identifying clear goals in your personal/work life and, with my support, taking constructive action to achieve them.

Do call me to discuss how I might be able to help you - even if your specific issue is not listed here, it is worth contacting me for a chat in confidence. Or, alternatively if you prefer, you can email or text me and book an appointment. I treat all ages and have full CRB clearance. Home and office visits are available, and I also offer Skype and telephone appointments.

My training, work experience and any achievement

I qualified as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist at the College of Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapies in central London, which provides full training in CBT . I graduated with Distinction from the college’s highly respected Diploma course, for which I am now a Supervisor and Tutor. Prior to this I trained in hypnotherapy and counselling skills. I have a BA (Hons) in Sociology with Social Psychology from Nottingham University and a Diploma in Coaching from Newcastle College. My former career as a successful PR and Marketing Consultant has provided me with invaluable experience of the business world, people and life in general.

Additional specialist courses completed: Pain Management, Weight Management, Treating Panic Disorder; Solving Self Esteem Problems; Overcoming Insomnia.

I am fully professionally insured, a member of the GHR (General Hypnosis Register) the CNHC (Complimentary and Natural Healthcare Council) and a student member of the AREBT (Association of Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy).

Emily , London , December 20 2017

I was really nervous about the prospect of seeing a therapist when I was feeling really low a few months ago, but from the moment I met Louise she made me feel so comfortable and understood. Through her incredible help and guidance I feel like my eyes have been opened to a total new way of thinking and looking at life. I couldn’t recommend her more.

Claire, London, September 19 2017

I came to Louise at a time when I was stuck in a dark negative spiral that I couldn’t find my own way out of. I was having anxiety and panic attacks, couldn’t sleep and had episodes of extreme sadness and depressive feelings - I was completely stuck . Louise has incredible levels of empathy and understanding and this, combined with her skill in giving me the tools to break the cycle of destructive thoughts and feelings helped me achieve a balance and understanding of myself that I’ve never had before. She helped me work through some un-resolved issues I had around love and relationships and most importantly she helped me strengthen my own positive feelings of self-worth and esteem. In effect she helped me to re-program my thinking, from a barrage of negative and self-critical thoughts to positive (but not unrealistic) and self-supporting ones. I am now in a happy relationship, I believe in a large part down to the work that I did with Louise. I’m more optimistic than I’ve been in years, and the money that I invested in myself by working with Louise is the best money I’ve ever spent!

Hugo, Wimbledon, August 10 2017

After many years of struggling to cope with a very thin skin, I came to Louise as a healthy skeptic of therapy of any kind, not believing that I could in fact change at all. As an assertive yet overly sensitive person, I have left a lot of wreckage in my wake through my lifetime, both socially and professionally, and I knew it. But I had also resigned myself to the idea that this was just the hand I had been dealt in life. Until I came to Louise that is. I ended up doing 12 sessions of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) with her (I have a lot of stuff). Louise’s approach can best be described as intelligent, engaging, well-reasoned and honest. She communicates as a peer and one never feels like one’s head is being shrunk. She manages to develop a relationship of professional trust very quickly and effectively as well. I HIGHLY recommend Louise for her CBT work specifically.

Joanna, London, June 15 2017

I was suffering from anxiety and was feeling generally very low and negative after lots of changes in my life. After only a couple of sessions with Louise I started feeling much more positive, calmer and generally happy. She has got a very calm and kind manner and made me rationalise my thoughts and emotions, also giving me strategies to cope with difficult situations. I would definitely recommend her to anyone who wants to improve their well being, she’s the most amazing professional and I’m so happy I found her!

K, London, May 07 2017

I had some Cognitive Behavioural Therapy with Louise and it honestly helped to give me a much more positive look at life. It really helped me to deal with certain situations better and reduce my anxiety. Would definitely recommend Louise’s friendly and approachable method.

Laura , Skegnes, April 06 2017

I can honestly say that therapy with Louise has changed my life. I came to Louise 6 weeks ago with severe anxiety which had me feeling trapped within my own home, unable to go out. 6 sessions later and I am able to go out as and when i please! I am even getting back into work! If you are considering therapy with Louise then i highly urge you to go for it. I had telephone sessions due to the fact that I live in Lincolnshire, and from the very first session she made me feel so comfortable and at ease. I will carry the lessons i have learnt from Louise with me for the rest of my life.

Alena, London, February 26 2017

Louise gave me a huge boost of confidence in my own ability to address problems of self-confidence and lack of self-belief that have plagued me since my childhood. Now in my mid thirties I was worried I would never be able to change, but Louise was excellent at gradually taking me through ways I could help myself work through the issues. After 12 lessons I felt a new person and now I find I can more easily cope with issues that once were hugely frustrating.

Charlotte, Fulham, London, February 17 2017

I cannot recommend Louise enough. I was a chronic nail biter for over 20 years and had tried everything to stop, to no avail. Louise was welcoming, friendly and most importantly very understanding, which made me feel at ease straight away. I had just one hypnotherapy session with Louise, I left feeling positive and determined. Since that session, I have not bitten my nails once and for the first time since I can remember, my nails are growing! It has also boosted my confidence as I am no longer trying to hide my nails through embarrassment. What Louise has helped me to achieve is incredible and something that I did not think was possible. I cannot thank her enough for helping me to overcome my awful habit.

Amy, London, January 16 2017

When I was 14 years old I was diagnosed with Social Anxiety Disorder. After endless counselling sessions with so many counsellors, I was beginning to give up on the whole idea of recovery. Then I met with Louise and she couldn’t have been more welcoming. As my anxiety was at its peak, it was lovely to be surrounded by an understanding, kind and comforting person. Louise helped me change my way of thinking using my "wise mind", which helps me figure out the negative automatic thoughts to the reasonable and logical thoughts. I found this quite difficult to perfect, but with Louise’s continuous help I quite frankly mastered it. Before meeting Louise I stopped going to school and college and completely shut myself off from the outside world. Now I am 18 and happily in education and speaking to new people everyday without hesitation. I will also be starting a job in film production soon, which is something I have wanted to persue for a long time. I wouldn’t be where I am today without Louise’s help and patience, I am extremely thankful.

Emily, London, October 30 2016

Louise has been amazing in helping me overcome my depression and anxiety since leaving university. She was so easy to talk to and I felt she absolutely understood my issues. She was instrumental in my recovery and I would recommend her highly.

1
Sarah, London, June 20 2016

I cannot recommend Louise highly enough. I was convinced to try a session down to the strength of the reviews on her website and I am very happy to add my own glowing testimonial in the hope that it may help someone else. I suffered from anxiety (note past tense!) for years and after some relaxed and enjoyable sessions chatting to Louise, I feel I have the tools and understanding to never go back. I genuinely feel different, I respond to situations that previously caused me stress in a totally different way. She’s bright, positive, perceptive and understanding. A few sessions has given me my life back. I’m so glad I didn’t stay stuck.

1
Pete, London, June 13 2016

Louise has helped me through 2 very difficult periods of my life and has helped get me back on track when I was feeling pretty low, most recently being a death in my family. I can’t thank Louise enough for all the help she has given me. She is very easy to talk to and has a very kind nature.

1
Suzanne, Putney, February 28 2016

Louise supported me to make life long changes to habits and thought processes. Her down to earth yet professional manner enabled me to take ownership for the changes (which feel longer lasting) whilst giving me just the right amount of support.

1
John, London, February 25 2016

Louise was excellent. Helpful, sensible and supportive. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending her.

1
Becky, Putney, August 24 2015

I cannot recommend Louise highly enough. I was recommended her services by a friend (who had also had an extremely positive experience) as someone who could help me during a difficult spell with my OCD. Louise was fantastic from our first session - she made me feel comfortable and relaxed (not an easy thing for someone suffering from OCD)! She is patient, caring and supportive and tailors her CBT techniques to your individual issues or concerns and I am extremely grateful to Louise for helping me to get back on my feet. If you are looking for a CBT specialist - Louise is your woman!

Jessica, London, July 09 2015

Before seeing Louise, I had suffered from sleeping problems ever since I could remember. She rational and practical approach to what I previously thought was a chronic problem. Whereas I used to sleep for a few hours a night, I fall asleep easily, even in stressful periods at work. My friends and family have noticed how much calmer and happier I am. Louise also helped me deal with a fear of flying. By dealing with these issues using the logical thought processes and simple steps that Louise has taught me, I am much more confident and feel that I can apply the techniques on my own. I can relax on the plane now, rather than being in of tears for the duration of the flight as before. Finally, I was recently a victim of a road traffic accident. Louise was able to pinpoint the unhealthy thought processes that were causing me so much distress, and working through the mechanisms that Louise taught me has really benefitted my recovery. Louise put me at ease from the start of our very first appointment. She is very flexible and understanding, often accommodating an appointment with me at short notice.

1
Susan, London, April 27 2015

I cannot recommend Louise more highly. She is warm, compassionate, empathetic and engaging immediately. Because there is no fear, judgement or awkwardness, I found I could talk very freely very quickly, which of course helped Louise get to the crux of my issues very quickly. I enjoyed the 2 way conversation about my problems - which helped me find realistic, workable solutions to my issues extremely quickly. Louise has helped me leap ahead in ways and in a time frame I never thought possible. I feel fantastic, motivated and empowered and confident about issues which previously had the opposite effect on me. The more I see Louise, the more issues I am tackling head on and dealing with forever. Louise has had a significant influence on my happiness, confidence and ability to manage my issues as well as I possibly can and far better than I have ever been able to. I cannot recommend her more highly.

JB, , April 20 2015

My daughter has been seeing Louise to help her with some difficult issues which were affecting her confidence and creating pressure for her at an important stage of her life. She has provided a safe and confidential place in which my daughter has been able to discuss how she feels. She has learnt different ways of looking at herself and her world and with Louise’s support and understanding has gained a self-assurance that will help her cope with any challenges that come her way. This is reassuring for me as a mother and I would be happy to recommend Louise.

Sarah, , June 01 2014

I just want to say thank you to Louise for all her help and support. I was suffering with low self esteem and anxiety after a few unfortunate incidents including a relationship break down and eventually had to reach out and ask for some help. Louise put me at ease instantly. She is very easy to talk to and I felt comfortable sharing all of my inner most personal feelings of self doubt. Just over a year on and things are so much better now. I find it strange to think how I was then and I’m very happy to have a clearer vision of who I am and what is important to me. Things are under my control rather than the other way round. Thanks again to Louise for getting me back to the right headspace! Life is about the good and the bad that is how we learn!

Beata, London, January 29 2014

Exam Anxiety I have seen Louise just a few times when I was really stressed before the exam. The first time I saw her she listened to me for a minute and then she said something that has completely changed my life. She is truly an amazing. Her experience and professionalism is exceptional. Louise, my life is so much better after meeting you!

Sophie, Putney, November 18 2013

I started seeing Louise with anxiety issues, which were really starting to effect my relationship and starting to get me down. Louise put me at ease from the first session as we explored all the underlying issues and then, in the following sessions we underwent the CBT process. I was amazed at how quickly this started to produce results and it is all thanks to her expert approach. She is calm, an incredible listener and clear in the way the process is worked through. You always feel at ease when working with her and she creates a very open and safe environment for you to offload and share your thoughts with her.

1
H, London, November 13 2013

I came to Louise suffering with anxiety issues. My sessions with Louise were great and really helped me to discover how unhealthy my former thinking was and how to change my way of thinking. After six sessions I now feel much more confident that I can tackle my anxiety issues as and when they come up.

victoria, , November 12 2013

Going to see someone like Louise was a huge step for me as I’d always considered myself able to sort through my own problems. However, when a combination of events got too much for me to deal with by myself, Louise was able to break down all the different issues I had into ways I could then work through and cope with. She is a very intelligent and compassionate person whose techniques are both healing and pragmatic. Through employing them in my daily life they have enabled me to return to a balanced, happy state. I couldn’t recommend her enough.

1
Francesca, , October 20 2013

From my very first session Louise made me feel comfortable and at ease. The techniques and support Louise provided me with were very useful in tackling the relationship and trust/anxiety issues I was having at the time. Louise enabled me to see things from a different perspective without making me feel as though I was being judged for the way I had been feeling. I would happily reccommend Louise to anyone who feels they need additional support with dealing with trust/anxiety issues and have felt a big difference since I started seeing her.

1
Nicola, Richmond, October 12 2013

My daughter got the exam grades she needed. She is so happy and proud herself. She had a few hiccups in two exams but managed to keep her cool. I have no doubt that her work with Louise helped her enormously and not only with her exam nerves but generally. She has a much more positive attitude to herself and how she deals with what life throws at her. Many, many thanks for all of your help and kindness.

1
Stef, , August 20 2013

I would absolutely recommend Louise to anybody looking for a CBT expert. She’s been incredibly helpful to me, and has been excellent in tailoring our sessions to fit my individual needs.

1
Sylvia , London, June 12 2013

I can recommend Louise without hesitation to anyone who needs help with any kind of emotional problem, whether personal or work-related. Her perception, empathy and intelligence really shine through and it is clear that she cares and is committed to making a real, life-changing difference. She provides that extra amount of support and insight, while using proven techniques that subtly create invaluable and lasting changes to how you feel. She is also a great motivator and confidence builder. It is clearly important to find a therapist that you can trust with your innermost problems and I can happily say that Louise is that person.

1
Helen, London, May 22 2013

Having seen Louise I’m pleased to say that I’m good and nearly back to the old but wiser me. The anxiety (although wouldn’t recommend it) has made me re evaluate my life and make sure I’m living my life rather than just getting by... I also realise that I need "me time" once a week to just chill out and pamper myself.. So, I’m getting there and feeling very positive.. The odd hiccup and stress moment. But that’s to remind me how far I have come and why I need to keep getting out there and having fun... Wow, can’t believe I said all that. 5 stars!

1
James, London, May 20 2013

Faced with the responsibilities of a high pressure job and a tough business climate I became consumed with unbearable anxiety and feelings of dread, always expecting the worst. I was losing my ability to think clearly and all too often reacted with anger. Louise helped me regain my perspective and take a more balanced view. Now things are going well, still a few challenging days as you would expect but not as much negative thinking which is a good thing. I feel more confident, able to face up to things and look for solutions. I admit that I was cynical at first but I felt comfortable with Louise from the start, and with shared humour and persistence, I gradually realised that it was working.

1
Grace, London, May 20 2013

I started seeing Louise at a point where my addictions and depression had removed my ability to see anything, including myself and my family and all aspects of my life, in a positive light. Her incredibly caring, gentle but effective approach has allowed me to find the strength and willpower needed to rebuild my self-esteem and enthusiasm for life. Each session with Louise builds on a strong foundation and the results are incredibly exciting. I just wish I had not found Louise so late in life - precious time would not have been wasted.

1
Amanda, London, February 21 2013

When I fisrt started seeing Louise I was signed off work with depression, anxiety and low self-esteem. Working with her I have been able to build back my confidence and return to work armed with strategies to help me cope in difficult situations.

Fiona, Wandsworth, January 14 2013

Louise helped me overcome a build up of anxiety that had started to take over my life, whereby I was feeling the physical symptoms that this can cause and was unable to relax. Together, we defined my goal as to see my glass as half full (rather then half empty) and to feel more confident in myself and my abilities. I started to see the value of adopting a less rigid and more accepting view of life. Through the process of CBT, I worked at recognising my irrational thoughts and replacing them with more helpful ones. Louise also introduced some coaching to the sessions, helping me to expand my horizons and take up new interests. Ultimately, I do feel that my glass is now half full. I still refer to the ’tools of the trade’ that Louise taught me. I feel calmer and I would recommend to anyone her professional but caring and sympathetic approach. Fiona, Wandsworth

Vicky, , January 04 2013

I went to Louise suffering with a very bad fear of flying. I would think of any way of avoiding the flight, long train/car journeys, boats! But with 4 flights coming up in quick succession I needed to see if I could do anything. Luckily I found Louise, who was able to see me twice before my flight. This literally was my last hope, so amazingly with her help I was calm for the first time in 7 years on a plane, and didn’t have to take anything when on the plane to calm myself either. I completely felt relaxed and would go far as saying I didn’t mind any of my flights, even when one had extreme turbulence, which for someone who would cry during a whole flight is literally life changing. I would definitely recommend her to anyone.

Helen, Kingston Upon Thames, October 10 2012

I was recommended to see Louise when suffering from anxiety and depression which was affecting my ability to function normally. My confidence was also at a low ebb. Louise offered a calm and caring environment which enabled me to untangle my problems. The process and techniques I learned gradually took effect and empowered me to think and behave in a way that helped me see a way forward. I can fully recommend Louise - she is a star!

catherine, london, July 16 2012

I went to see Louise as i was experiencing anxiety and panic attacks which were very distressing. Louise saw me extremely quickly and offered an evening appointment which was ideal. She immediately put me at ease and was reassuring and offered me a very detailed assessment of my difficulties. I was very impressed by her use of rational emotive CBT which helped me understand and take control of my problems very quickly. I’m pleased to say that my symptoms have resolved thanks to Louise’s sessions and i would recommend her without question.
