About Retford Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a tried and tested system of complementary medicine. The Chinese and other eastern cultures have been using acupuncture to restore, promote and maintain good health for thousands of years.

More and more people are finding this long established therapy can offer an effective solution to all manner of today’s ills.

Retford Acupuncture aims to promote optimal health and wellbeing in Retford and the surrounding areas by offering an excellent standard of complementary healthcare in the form of acupuncture and massage.

My training, work experience and any achievement

James first became involved in natural health in 1994. An experienced member of the British Acupuncture Council, as well as establishing successful practices in Somerset and Scotland, James has volunteered as an acupuncturist at a UNHCR camp clinic in Nepal over 3 winters.

He trained for 4 years as an acupuncturist at the International College of Oriental Medicine (ICOM), graduating with a first class honours degree in Oriental Medicine from Brighton University and a diploma in Swedish/ therapeutic massage.

James’ treatments draw on a wide range of classical and traditional acupuncture styles, including 5 Elements, Stems & Branches and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

A passionate advocate of the benefits of Chinese Medicine, James brings a great warmth to his work. In addition to treating many of the pain-related disorders that acupuncture is best known for in the West, he has a special interest in psycho-emotional issues, gynaecological and fertility conditions, skin complaints, and childhood illnesses.

In addition to acupuncture, James also offers a unique style of therapeutic massage as a treatment modality, combining traditional Swedish massage with acupressure and deep tissue techniques.

James holds a diploma in massage and is an experienced practitioner of this ancient art. Massage may be offered independently to treat a wide range of conditions, or in support of an acupuncture treatment, where appropriate.
