About Equilibre Acupuncture

Equilibre means balance in French; For over 10 years I have striven to provide caring and compassionate treatments to help people return to their equilibre, at first through Tai Chi (teaching since 2002), then combining Acupuncture, TuiNa and Chinese Nutritional therapy in treatment plans that are unique to each patient.

Along the years, I realized that finding their point of balance, be it physical and/or emotional, gives the individual the freedom to choose where they want to go next, from starting to train again, having a child or embarking on the life journey they were born for. What would you do if you were free of disease?

After doing 14 years of medical research on the immune system, I fell in love with Chinese Medicine because it simply works and provides a very coherent view of a person and their dis-ease, once you get over the strange language. Western style research is only now getting the tools to validate it and explain how Chinese Medicine works. Exciting times! My scientific background allows me to bridge the two approaches and take the holistic approach one step further, truly integrating Mind, Body and Soul, Western and Eastern views to provide the best treatment for the patient.

Over the years, I have worked with people with a wide variety of conditions, sometimes well defined by Western standard, such as fertility issues, depression or pain relief, and sometimes more vague, such as tiredness or a sense of malaise. Being holistic, Chinese Medicine tries to establish the connections between all your symptoms and their cause, understand your landscape, at all levels. It does not really matter where we start from, as all aspects of your health will improve. That is the beauty of it.

Call me now to discuss this further, I offer 20 mins free consultations at Gracelands Yard.

I am also passionate about teaching Chinese Medicine and passing on the skills and knowledge to patients during classes or consultation, as well as students. I am the Course Leader and a lecturer on the degree level Acupuncture course at the City College of Acupuncture. Teaching is a great way of sharpening your skills, all to the patients benefit! Please visit the website for more details about the course.

Most importantly, I am passionate about what I do. Every patient I see matters deeply to me, and I go the extra mile to ensure that you get the outcome you want and need.

My training, work experience and any achievement

Originally from France, Anne-Sophie has worked in medical research since 1992, gaining a PhD in Immunology and looking at way of calming down inflammation, and improving the immune system’s function in older age. Immunology being important to all disease processes, she started to understand how all body systems influence each other from a Western perspective.

She was then inspired to retrain as an acupuncturist at the London College of Traditional Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (LCTA) and University of Portsmouth after developing an awareness of Qi through her own Tai Chi practice. After gaining her BSc (Hons), she undertook a postgraduate internship in Hangzhou, China, before starting the practice in Kensal Green in 2006.

She developed a special interest in all gynaecology problem, both male and female during her work at the teaching clinic at LCTA, and writing her BSc thesis. The best way to treat such problems, and actually most issues, is to integrate all aspects of Chinese Medicine. Therefore she further studied the energetics of food, and how to use some herbs, both Chinese and Western, in the cooking, to improve fertility and empower the patient. Fertility and obstetrics currently account for over 50% of her practice.

As a Tai Chi instructor for over 10 years, she has also developed a strong interest in musculoskeletal conditions and carried on postgraduate training in Tui Na therapeutic massage at Middlesex University and post-graduate courses in the treatment of sports injuries and musculoskeletal conditions, as well as obstetrics. She takes this understanding of posture and how the body moves (or not) to her patients. Most recently she added tendon stretching to her tool kit, with spectacular results in improving range of motion.

Anne-Sophie says : “getting qualified was only the beginning of the journey, I have been fortunate to study and carry on studying with respected masters and leaders in their field, digging deeper in the thousands of years of knowledge, gained through careful observation of humans and their interact with the environment”. She regularly follows Master Jeffrey Yuen from the U.S., Doctor Yang from China, and Frances Turner in the U.K.

Along the years, Anne-Sophie has worked with a broad range of conditions. “A patient might complain of chronic sinusitis, and then realize it is linked with their gut problems, this exemplifies how you can’t isolate one problem for the other. In Chinese Medicine, a specialist is usually a junior doctor; it is a Western concept”. During her acupuncture BSc, she conducted research on postpartum depression and became particularly interested in gynaecology and obstetrics, taking women from pre-conception to post-partum care. This is an area she expended on with specific postgraduate courses.
