Japanese Acupuncture: Kiiko Matsumoto Style

Principle Features of Kiiko Style Acupuncture

• Abdominal Diagnosis with Instant Feedbacks

Kiiko Style Acupuncture utilizes a palpatory method which provides instant feedback to the practitioner. The activation of specific reflexes suggests the diagnosis and the efficacy of the treatment can be established by the changes in the same reflexes. As a result both practitioner and patient can feel if there are results during the treatment.

• Diagnosis in Depth Addressing the Cause of your Health Issues

The approach to the diagnosis is multilevel and goes in a great depth into structural or constitutional imbalances. By addressing these imbalances the practitioner can solve difficult cases and the patient can have more complete and lasting results.

• Very Gentle and Almost Painless Treatment

In this style of acupuncture the needles being used are very fine, the insertion is very gentle with the use of a guide tube and the stimulation of the needles is minimal or none. The result is an almost painless treatment.

History of Kiiko Matsumoto Style Acupuncture

Acupuncture has its roots in China as part of the Chinese medicine along with Herbalism, Tuina Massage and Qi Gong. However through the centuries other Asian countries have developed their own style of Acupuncture. Particularly in Japan, acupuncture was a profession practiced largely by the blind. So, the blind practitioners were relying mainly on the touch in order to make a diagnosis which had as a result the development of a highly systematized method of palpation and very skilled practitioners in pulse, abdominal and meridian diagnosis.

One of the contemporary blind Acupuncturists in Japan was Master Kiyoshi Nagano. His story starts during the Second World War where he was the only survivor of a whole class of 40 men recruited at the age of 17 to become Kamikaze pilots. Nagano survived as he was left behind due to his poor eyesight. After that he felt responsible to finish his education and become successful in their name. He knew that in order to become a successful acupuncturist he needed to understand the classic Chinese medical texts. As his eyesight was rapidly deteriorating, he read, memorized and kept alive in his mind the chapters of the Nei Ching Su Wen, Ling Shu and Nan Ching. Nagano developed a deep knowledge in the Classic acupuncture texts, which in combination with his clinical experience over his lifetime, made him a Master of the art of Acupuncture.

Kiiko Matsumoto was attracted by Nagano’s fascinating articles which demonstrated a deep knowledge on both the Classic texts and Western medicine applied in a coherent way in his clinical work. Kiiko was so impressed from her first contact with Nagano, that she started studying with him. His expertise was the pulse diagnosis but Kiiko realized that she would have needed a lifetime to understand and apply Master Nagano’s knowledge in pulse diagnosis so; she started investigating the abdomen and other areas in the body to find changes that correlated with Master Nagano’s findings and treatment protocols. After 15 years studying and working with him she developed her own system of diagnosis based on palpable changes in the abdomen, neck and spine. Kiiko Matsumoto has since become an internationally known scholar and author with a deep knowledge of the Classics integrated into a coherent clinical practice. She has published five fundamental texts on acupuncture in English and many articles. She travels around the world teaching her style of acupuncture as well as runnign a very busy practice in Boston, USA.

Bioenergetic Screening with Asyra Pro

The screening is carried out using a device called the Asyra, which is the latest technology in the Computerised Electro Dermal Screening (CEDS). Asyra screening is a totally non-invasive way to get information from the body about aspects of health that are balanced or imbalanced. Readings are taken by holding two brass handmasses which are monitoring tiny changes in the electrical resistance of your skin as different electromagnetic signals are output from the system.

Asyra works in a similar way as Kinesiology (muscle testing), but it is computerised and much faster. The system effectively asks the body thousands of "questions" in a very short time, and allows the practitioner to build up a detailed picture of the body’s responses, which gives important clues to the healing process.

The information we can gather from a screening includes:

Imbalances and weakness in organ systems
The screening will identify which of the major organs of your body are currently in stressed or weakened states. As organ systems are linked together both physically and energetically, the system will also indicate the root cause of the imbalance.

Nutrition needs and food intolerances
Nutritional screening is an excellent way to identify any vitamin and mineral deficiencies and malabsorptions as well as any food sensitivities or allergies that you may have. This provides a basis for appropriate nutritional therapy and smart eating plans.

Environmental and allergen sensitivity
This type of sensitivity is often a symptom of deeper level imbalances, so you can potentially be de-sensitised using imprinted remedies with the energetic aspect of your allergens, in conjunction with a broader health improvement program. For research click here.

Toxic load in the body
The presence of toxins in the body influence your health strongly, so screening is used to identify any toxins that are affecting your health. Particular attention is paid to how well your liver is functioning, since it is the major detoxification organ. Ensuring that your body regulates toxins effectively is an essential part of any treatment program.

Elaine, London , November 20 2012

"When I visited Michail I had been suffering with various ailments; Chronic shoulder and back pain due to being sat in the same position at work for to long and from an injury I had plantar fasciates. I also have had asthma and eczema since my twenties. Astonishingly after 8 treatments I saw an improvement in my all my conditions, the planter fasciates has gone, and I can walk with ease! My asthma and eczema are both controlled! The shoulder and back pain is now manageable whilst I am at work. Through the acupuncture I am able to make it through the day pain free and stress free. The results have been incredible all thanks to Michail’s holistic approach to the body, mind and spirit. Thank- you so much."

Sallie, London , July 14 2012

I began treatment with Michail after a cholycystectomy (gallbladder removal) and a sustained period of great stress, loss and bereavement. I was very weak and in a lot of pain and suffering from nausea constantly. A few months later and I am almost completely cured. Michail was so generous with his time and was incredibly patient and understanding. His knowledge of acupuncture and Chinese medicine was very impressive and I felt very supported both physically and emotionally. I am now able to function again and have almost no more nausea or pain and a lot of energy. I am extremely grateful and would recommend Michail very highly as a practitioner.
