Why Have Counselling?
It takes a certain type of person to attend therapy. You need to want to change something in your life. If you’re happy with what you have and where you are, then counselling may not be for you. Counselling is for the individual who wants things to change, whether it’s being happier, dealing with your issues so they no longer affect you or even just finding out where you want to be in life. It’s about you – changing your thought patterns, learning coping strategies, managing your support network. As you already know, there seems to be a particular person in everyone’s life who seems happy, never having any major problems, living life up and you question “why isn’t that me”?
Counselling could be the answer; fear can control you and your life but if you realise your dreams, I can help with building up your motivation, changing your thoughts so that you can do what is necessary to be where you want to be. Goals are achievable – you need to put in the time and effort and have the support (in therapy this is from me) to be able to take the steps to achieving your goals. In 30 days where could you be? Could you have sorted out your debts? Could you have found your new job? Could you have started being more positive? Dealt with your issues and started moving forward in your life? What’s stopping you taking that step? Is it a reason you’re giving or is it an excuse because you’re scared of failing? What if you could grow, improve and even better progress in your life?
"Everything in life changes, change is automatic, progress is not" – Tony Robbins
You need to change things in order to have the results you want. This is the difference between where you are now in your life and where you want to be. What does it take to make a lasting change? You need to have a vision of what you want or what you should have but this alone isn’t enough. You need to really want this vision, to want things to change. There’s always more than one way to achieve your goals and always remember if one way doesn’t work there’s always another way. If you’re able to get back on track after things fail, you’ll be able to be where no-one else is because you got up and continued back on track where they gave up.
When taking steps, it’s about having the vision, keeping focussed and visualising it on a daily basis: when you’ve made a real decision in your life, you’ll find a way. There’s probably something you’ve already done in your life and not realised. You may have decided not to smoke anymore, or decided not to drink alcohol anymore. There are times when you’ve made a real decision yet you get stuck to it. This is because you have the strength and power to do anything you wish, you’ve been able to tap into this and make the necessary changes.
If you haven’t been able to do this, doesn’t mean you can’t. I believe everyone has the strength and power to make things happen; you just need to find out how to do it. If you’re thinking at this point, that’s not me, I can’t do this... As Tony Robbins has said "Let me ask you when did you define who you were? At which stage in your life did you determine who you are? When did you decide what you could and couldn’t achieve? Is this really the case, where you’ve made this decision?" It’s these very thoughts that stop you from achieving or taking the steps to achieve your vision. Tapping into the positive strength and determination, is where I come into it. Counselling can help gain your focus, look at ways to get back up and carry on, and take the steps to achieve your goals. Are you happy where you are or do you want to be living your dream? There’s always a helping hand when you need it most.
