It’s More than Words: Body Shape Shows How Attractiveness He or She Is

There are things that we can’t express through the use of words. Non verbal communication, which is often associated with body language, gestures and facial expressions, could tell whether a person finds another to be attractive or not.

Which body shapes do most people find attractive?

Although magazines and TV shows suggest that being thin is a sign of beauty and attractiveness, it isn’t really the case in real world. Studies in physical attractiveness indicate that men and women are attracted to certain body shapes.

On men’s point of view, the focus is more on youth, health, and fertility. Studies show that men are more attracted to women with a lower waist-to-hip ratio and an average body mass index. This means she has to be neither lump nor plump. These characteristics are associated with sexual maturity and youth. Although popular beliefs suggest that the larger her breasts are, the more attractive a woman becomes, what really matters most is that she has a proportionate body or that ‘hourglass’ figure.

Enough for the boys, now how about the girls? According to the evolutionary theory, women are more attracted to men who have v-shaped bodies, because this feature is associated with good health and higher testosterone level. Women are also attracted to men older than their age because it would mean that they have already accumulated wealth. Furthermore, majority of the female population prefer men who are taller.

What does the shape of face reveal about sexual attractiveness?

The facial features of a person tell a lot of things about a person. Research has also shown that one’s facial shape has something to do with how attractive a person is. Among the biggest considerations is the facial symmetry. This means that both sides of the face (left and right) should be alike. The more asymmetrical one’s face is, the more attractive he or she becomes. Men prefer women who have highly ‘feminised’ faces, or those who are more childlike. These features suggest youth and fertility. Women, on the other hand, are more attractive to men who have wider jaws as they depict sexual maturity and strength. The person’s face may also say something trust, good health, and sense of dominance.

Body language and sexual appeal

In a research conducted by psychologists Mark Snyder, Beth Tanke, and Ellen Berscheid, it was found that men’s non verbal cues can make a woman behave in a more sexually attractive manner. During the study, a group of men were asked to converse with a woman over the phone. Some were made to believe that they were talking to either a beautiful or less attractive woman by looking on a photograph. When they were talking to ‘attractive’ women, men conveyed their beliefs through the tone of their voice and other non verbal cues. This in turn, has triggered women to behave in a more sexually attractive way.

There are other non verbal elements that show one’s level of attractiveness. They include the hairstyle, grooming, tone of voice, etc. Although they’re backed with science, these findings aren’t always right for all people. There are individuals who have peculiar preferences. For instance, some men prefer skinny or chubby ladies while some women prefer men who are slim and short. Indeed, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
