8 Super foods to Boost Weight Loss

Helen Holmes April 24, 2018

All fruits, fish, and vegetables are healthy but some are simply greater than the others. If you’re looking to shed excess pounds, you need to pick the foods that will enhance your metabolism and will convert those fats to something usable – like energy.

Here are 8 super foods that won’t just work double time to slim you down but will also satisfy your taste buds!

Eggs: The Fat Blocker

In a study published in the International Journal of Obesity, it was found that egg promotes weight loss significantly. For eight weeks, one group of participants had two eggs, jelly, and toast for breakfast while another group had a same-calorie bagel breakfast without egg. At the end of the experiment, researchers observed that they lost 65% more weight than those who didn’t consume eggs. Here’s the thing – egg yolk contains the highest choline. This compound is known to prevent the absorption of fats in the body.

Salmon: The Flab Fighter

Many people love this fatty fish because of its rich taste. But even if it’s high in fats, the fats found in salmon are omega-3 fatty acids which have been found to promote good health and help prevent the onset of various disease including heart problems. But aside from its therapeutic property, omega-3 fatty acids have the ability to stimulate the body to burn fats rather than store it.

Sweet Potatoes: The Hunger Quencher

In a study by University of Surrey, it was found that having a breakfast or lunch that contains sweet potatoes induces a person to eat fewer calories for 24 hours. This is because sweet potatoes contain resistant starch (RS) – a type of carbohydrate that stimulates the body’s burning abilities. Same compound also boosts the production of peptide hormone which works by making the brain believe that the body is already full even if it has consumed only a little food.

Green Soybeans: The Calorie Burner

One cup of green soybeans contains 17 grams of protein. For the body to digest this amount of protein, it needs more calories than it does when digesting fats and carbohydrates. In a study by the Federal University of Vicosa, it was revealed that a person can burn up to 70 calories per day when eating a protein-rich breakfast.

Kiwifruit: Fat Converter

If you can’t lose your fats, you want to at least turn it into something usable. One large Kiwi contains about 84 mg of vitamin C which is more than the daily recommended amount. This ‘super’ vitamin helps produce a compound called carnitine which helps promote weight loss by transporting fat into the mitochondria where it is burned and converted to energy.

Apple: Fibre-Rich

Apple is one of the healthiest fruits available today. It contains up to 5 grams of fibre which aids in digestion and metabolism. In another study conducted by the researchers from the Penn State University in University Park, it was shown that people who eat an apple at least 15 minutes before eating high-caloric lunch consumed 187 less calories than those who ate the same food without consuming apple beforehand.

Quinoa: The Fat Destroyer

Quinoa is a grain-like crop which is grown for its edible seed. Quinoa is loaded with essential amino acids that help in weight loss by reviving the muscle’s ability to metabolise fats. On a report published in the Journal of Nutrition, dieters who consume around 115 grams of protein every day lose 22 percent more fats after a period of 4 months than those who consumed only 70 grams a day.

Lentils: The Fat Burner

Lentils are also a rich source of RS. Aside from burning fats, it has the power to shrink fat cells. This is supported by a research carried out by experts from University of Colorado in Denver. In the said study, participants who had a lentil-rich diet burned 23% more fats for just 24 hours than a meal without RS.
