About Dr. Pradeep Kumar Chadha

My services can be described as ‘drugless psychiatry’ or in modern terms ‘integrative psychiatry’. This involves using psychiatric drugs, nutritional supplements, yogic breathing, meditation, imagery based psychotherapy, homeopathy and Bach Flower remedies. A major part of my day to day work involves helping people on psychiatric medications work through their traumas. This enables them to reduce or come off medications successfully and remain symptom free. Abuse, Trauma, Grief and Anger are the major issues that every mentally ill person has. When such a person relaxes with meditation or by breathing exercises, the emotional issues tend to come up. It looks like the symptoms have become worse. But with simple imagery exercises, the symptoms settle down quickly mostly within a few minutes. My skills enable me to slowly and subtly let a person ‘process’ their emotions to enable them to reduce their medications, with the help of the doctor who prescribes them. My work has enabled me to innovate, discover and develop some of the simplest and most powerful techniques that are evidence based. Helping with anger, hostility and aggression is my forte. The service I offer, I believe, is second to none. The treatment involves exercises that have been developed over the years after a lot of research and experience. The other key area that I provide expertise is in PTSD treatment. Having learnt EMDR, imagery and hypnosis, experience in working with victims of trauma enabled me to discover some very simple and subtle ways to reduce the distress of PTSD. The psychotherapy part can be done online and also by phone.
In recent years, a lot of people outside Ireland have been using my services online. Mainly using Skype, a person can easily follow instructions while sitting at home in their own time. It saves them money and time to travel. As the therapy involves imagery work, it is possible to do it anywhere provided the internet connection is good.
My background is that I am from India having migrated to Ireland in 1991. My attempt is to integrate the spirituality of the east with the western system of medicine, to create a potent mix. My first book- The Stress Barrier was published in 1999. My second book –The Road to a Happier Life was published in 2007.
My clients have described me using the following words; - ‘Genuine’, ‘Does not miss anything’, ‘Has good intentions’, ‘Rolls Royce of therapy’. This is flattering but it is nice to know what people think of you. At the end of the day what you deliver matters and the word of mouth is the best publicity.

My training, work experience and any achievement

Dr. Pradeep K. Chadha MBBS. DCP. DPM. PG Diploma Psychotherapy Studies
Initially trained as a physician in New Delhi, India, I worked as a general physician in private practice from 1986-87 to 1991. The avenues for training in psychiatry in India were limited. So I moved to Ireland. Working in Dublin hospitals made me aware of the ‘western’ psychiatric approach to mental health. It was a disappointing experience for me. I realized quickly that -1. Psychiatry branded ‘emotional’ issues as ‘psychiatric’ and 2. For a doctor psychiatry was a dissatisfying experience because people did not get ‘cured’. By this time I had met Professor Ivor Browne in Dublin, whose radical approach to mental health using hypnosis and ketamine like drugs, had made him well known in the western world. I was impressed by his ability to accept and learn new approaches to mental health. Needless to say, it changed my whole outlook to psychiatry. I learnt EMDR from him. In 1996, I earned Diploma in Clinical Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland. In 1997, I got a Diploma in Psychological Medicine from the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland. In the meantime I also did an Advanced Diploma in Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy from the Institute of Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy in Cork. This enabled me to set up my own private practice as a hypnotherapist in Dublin. As time went on and the confidence started to develop, I started to help clients on psychiatric drugs with psychotherapy. Surprisingly, their medications were reduced in most cases. As I became more intrigued and curious, patterns started to appear in the case histories I took. I noticed that almost all the people who were on psychiatric drugs came with only 3 issues- Grief. Trauma and Anger. This meant that almost everyone with depression, anxiety , addictions and PTSD had unresolved emotional distress in their background. I started to do research on the mechanism of how the body remembered these experiences and if there was a way that they could be untangled. In the year 2000, I presented a paper in the World Forum on Mental Health in London. The paper was on ‘Drugless Psychiatry’ and the scientific mechanism of its possibilities. My endeavour has been to learn and discover new skills to shorten the duration of suffering of each person who comes to me. For that I am prepared to look at every avenue of treatment. This has resulted in that now I am able to integrate as many modalities of treatment as are possible for me. I have learnt from experience that emotions create chemical disturbances in the body that can affect any body system. The commonest physical conditions, I see relate to digestive tract . There are also physical conditions that are considered ‘autoimmune’ that are due to unresolved emotional distress. Recently I have added Coaching to my skills. In November 2017, I presented a Workshop in World Federation of Mental Health Conference on Common Science of Psychiatry, Emotive Therapies and Meditations and its Application in SEBT (Subjective Emotive Brief Therapy). It is available on YouTube for public view. Over the years I have had the opportunity to contribute to many online training forums in interviews and short training programmes.
Over the years, I have also had the experience of training medical students, doctors and therapists in India, USA, UK and Ireland, though it is not done on a regular basis.
I am a Fellow of The American Alternative Medical Association, Fellow of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress, Fellow of the American Institute of Stress, Accredited member of the American Association of Drugless Practitioners, Accredited member of British Register of Complementary Practitioners(UK), Natural Healers Association (South Africa), Life member of the British Indian Psychiatric Association and Indian Association of Private Psychiatrists.
