About Humanistic & Integrative Counsellor
I am Eileen Harwood, a psychotherapeutic counsellor practising since 2002. I am a member of the BACP and abide by their code of practice. My private practice is called The Dolphins Counselling Service. I liken my counselling practice to dolphins because they are emotional and caring, healing, empathic and compassionate towards human beings. Furthermore they listen, they are also gentle, and understanding. They are known to have helped human beings.
I am a Humanistic and Integrative counsellor. My psychotherapeutic approach includes reflective listening, unconditional positive regard, empathy, congruence and understanding. The reason I use the humanistic approach is because I believe it to be more gentle than other approaches. You set the agenda and you will be able to talk through your issues.
An introductory session is free! Find out how we can work together and talk over your needs. And do feel free to ask questions. Working with someone who listens to you properly (and who doesn’t judge you) can lead to a more fulfilled way of life.
Through my nursing and counselling I have worked with people from a wide variety of different cultures, beliefs, backgrounds and abilities. I worked with bereavement and altered body image (another form of loss) that I first took an interest in counselling. If you have lost a loved one or a friend, even a pet, then these counselling sessions may be what you are looking for. Your bereavement could have been because of cancer, long illness, or natural causes; it is still a shock. You may be feeling lonely and feel you would like to talk to someone to help you work through your grief. I am a good reflective, active listener and I know how important it is to be heard.
I work with long standing depression, stress and suicidal feelings. My clients have found it helpful to talk through these issues and you may also find my way of working helpful. I provide a safe environment for you to express yourself and I attach great importance to confidentiality. I believe everyone can benefit from counselling regardless of age, gender, culture or religion. Each client usually seeks counselling at different stages in their life for various reasons. Coming to therapy is a big step to take and it can be a challenging experience to look at yourself, particularly at a time when you are feeling at your lowest or in a crisis. My aim is to communicate with you and create a good trusting counselling relationship.
I have an interest in working with post traumatic stress disorder. I have experience counselling clients who have been verbally, physically and/or sexually abused. I also work with addiction. One of my counselling is counselling dyslexic clients who have found it helpful to talk through their experiences, while gaining a clearer understanding of their dyslexia.
