About Kate Palmer
Struggling with life? Counselling provides you with an opportunity to make the changes you need to so you can live in a more fulfilling way. I believe that there are certain times when we can all find life overwhelming and full of obstacles. If you are suffering from depression, relationship issues, anxiety, distress and/or confusion it can help to talk things through with someone not connected to your situation. I offer counselling in a safe, confidential environment to help you explore difficult issues and choices.
I work from an integrative-relational theoretical basis which means that I draw on a range of different theories to support my work. This enables me to tailor our session to what you need. I believe that it is the relationship between you and your counsellor that is fundamental in supporting you when you are distressed, and in helping you understand yourself and your relationships, enabling you to move forward. My priority is to create a warm, respectful, secure relationship where you can feel safe enough to explore and come to terms with whatever may be troubling you.
My training, work experience and any achievement
I have experience of working with clients with a wide range of emotional issues, including relationship difficulties, family breakdown, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, anger management and bereavement. I have been working in the counselling field since 2001: as part of an eating disorders multi-disciplinary team; as a volunteer at Childline and Samaritans; in the NHS and work place counselling; as a university student counsellor; and in private practice.
I would normally see you for weekly 50 minute sessions, either for a fixed time (for example for six or twelve weeks) or for a more open-ended time, depending on what we agree together.
I am a member of BACP and I abide by its Code of Ethics. My work is supervised by a senior practitioner.
My qualifications are:
BA (Hons) (1st class) Integrative-Relational Counselling (BACP Accredited)
Advanced Certificate in Integrative Counselling
Fees and Terms
My fees are £45 per 50 minute session. I can offer a limited number of concessions for students and people on low incomes. I charge £25 for the initial consultation: I see this as an opportunity for you to decide whether you feel comfortable working with me and for me to find out if I’m the right person to help you.
If you miss an appointment because you are ill and you have given me 24 hours notice, or because you are on holiday, you will not be charged.
If you give less than 24 hours notice you will be charged a cancellation fee.
I am a registered with a wide range of private healthcare providers including wpa, Cigna and pruhealth.
Both the premises in Teddington and East Molesey are less than 5 minutes walk from train stations and on major bus routes. Parking is also easily available.
Duration of Counselling
I work with clients on both a short (8-12 weeks) and long term (open ended) basis depending upon their needs. This is something that we would discuss at our initial meeting.
Code of Ethics
As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I abide by their Ethical Framework for Good Practice.
