Further Information

I am an Advanced SIRPA TMS Practitioner / Chronic Pain and Stress Illness Specialist treating patients face to face, as well as via skype/ telephone

TMS is and acronym for Tension Myoneural Syndrome, sometimes still referred to as Tension Myositis Syndrome which was the name originally coined by Dr. John Sarno MD who is the founder of this syndrome.

The concept is based on the pain being and feeling very real but rather than being a physical problem it is actually a Psycho-Physiological Pain Disorder (PPD).
SIRPA’s approach focuses on actual recovery, rather than treating or managing the pain. It involves an educational, evidence-based and self-empowering approach to help individuals identify and acknowledge the underlying causes of their pain while also developing nerve pathways that allow a pain-free, healthy life. Because the nerve pathways involved in chronic pain are reversible, full recovery is possible, irrespective of the pain’s severity or duration. Our treatment approach focuses on four main areas: Education, Emotions, Behaviour and Lifestyle. All of these play a significant role in not just enabling individuals to resolve chronic pain and other persistent conditions, but in becoming more stress resilient, emotionally intelligent and able to live a healthy, active life moving forwards.

Once we have ruled out physically damaging conditions such as cancer and autoimmune diseases, most cases of persistent or recurrent pain (‘chronic pain’) are caused by the brain rather than something wrong with the part of the body that hurts. We now understand that the brain can learn to do this as a way of protecting us from unresolved emotional turmoil, past or present. This is sometimes referred to as a ‘maladaptive stress response’. The nerve pathways that connect the brain with the site of pain can become learned and persistently active, especially when conventional treatments address only the pain symptoms and not the underlying emotional cause.

THIS APPROACH CAN INITIALLY BE HARD TO GET YOUR HEAD AROUND BUT ONCE YOU GET IT IT IS TREMENDOUSLY EMPOWERING. Call me now for a free, no obligation telephone consultation to find out more.

If you do not see your pain symptom here, and want to ask me a quick question, fee free to email me or find out more by reading my web page
