About Homeopathy At Home

I am a qualified and registered homeopath with a post-graduate diploma in Homeopathic Paediatrics.

I trained to be a homeopath when I was blown away by the power of homeopathy when it was prescribed for me and my family.

I find nothing more rewarding than supporting people dealing with physical or emotional symptoms at all stages of life and helping them to regain and then maintain a better level of general health.

My clients range from very young babies to elderly people and part of my treatment is to educate my clients (or their carers) about the potential uses of homeopathy.
This often leads to a greater sense of empowerment which enables you to assume greater responsibility for your health and that of your family.

My ultimate aim is for more people to confidently and safely use homeopathy at home for themselves in first aid and acute situations and to adopt simple lifestyle changes that lead to a more holistic approach to health.

My training, work experience and any achievement

I had a very traditional upbringing and hadn’t even heard of homeopathy until I was 31 years old.
At school, I was a conscientious student and my strengths were Maths, science and languages (consequently I took Maths, Physics and German at A level). On leaving school at 18, I joined Lloyds Bank in the City as a trainee computer programmer and, 18 months later, joined the Bank of England where I progressed through various IT roles before specialising as an IT Project Manager on software development projects.

I loved working with business users to analyse and design systems they could use and I enjoyed the logical nature of software development. I really felt I had found my niche!

In 1996, my husband and I decided it was time to start a family and we were fortunate to fall pregnant more or less straight away. At about 10 weeks pregnant, we were so excited that we couldn’t wait any longer to share the news with our close friends and family. 2 weeks later, we had our first scan where we were told that the baby had stopped developing and had actually died but for some reason my body had been fooled into thinking it was still pregnant so hadn’t miscarried naturally. We were both shocked and devastated with this news and, being the logical thinker that I am, my first question was “Why does this happen and what can I do to stop it happening again?” The answer at that time was “oh these things often happen and we don’t really know why”. I asked if there were any tests that I could take and the reply was “oh we won’t investigate any further unless this happens to you another 3 or 4 times”. So I stayed in hospital to have an ERPC [evacuation and removal of the product of conception] and I cried for almost the entire time I was there assuming that I would be fine and able to ‘pull myself together’ when I got out of hospital.

However, I found that I couldn’t simply ‘carry on’ as normal. I found it difficult to control my emotions and I think, looking back, it was because I didn’t understand what I needed to do differently to make sure that it didn’t happen again. I felt I needed answers or a plan (as any good IT project manager would do!)

A friend recommended a homeopath that she had seen as she thought she might be able to help me. I had no idea what a homeopath was but the thought that she might be able to help encouraged me to make an appointment to see her. At my first appointment, the lovely Tina listened to my story, asked me a number of seemingly unrelated questions and sent me away with a homeopathic remedy to take until the next appointment. She told me to forget about getting pregnant again yet and she would let me know when she felt we should start trying again.

Just 4 months after starting to see Tina, she suggested that we might like to try again for a baby. I fell pregnant the first month, remained anxious until I had my 12 week scan which was all fine and went on to have a healthy baby girl in December 1997 who we named Dulcie. I had continued to see Tina throughout my pregnancy and after Dulcie was born she treated the both of us. It was amazing to me to see how well Dulcie responded to the homeopathic remedies (primarily for colic and eczema with the odd temperature and ear infection thrown in for good measure).

Tina suggested that I buy a kit so that I had homeopathic remedies to hand when I needed them rather than having to rush out to the local health food store or go to her practice to collect them. With her help and advice, I started to use homeopathy at home. I continued to see Tina and fell pregnant again in 1999, remained healthy throughout my pregnancy and gave birth to our second daughter Honor in May 2000.

Having returned to work quite quickly after Dulcie, I took a longer maternity leave with Honor, yet I was back at the Bank of England working part-time as an IT project manager again before the end of 2000. However, my passion for IT had waned and I spent an inordinate amount of time and energy trying to decided what I should do instead. I knew I wanted to do something that was more ‘caring’ and that fitted in better with having 2 young children. I considered training to be a teacher but it didn’t really feel right for me and something kept holding me back.

One day, a friend of mine came round with her 6 yr old son and he promptly had an accident in our garden. Without further thought, I asked her permission to give him a remedy from my trusted homeopathic kit which she agreed to and the ‘emergency’ was resolved. I then went on to explain to my friend why I had given that particular remedy and how great homeopathy was at dealing with first aid situations and how we used it all the time etc. My friend listened to me rave about it and then said “Janice, you are obviously passionate about homeopathy, why don’t you train to do that?” In that moment, a light bulb in both my head and my heart lit up. Shortly thereafter I enrolled with the Lakeland College of Homeopathy for their 3 year part time course and the rest, as they say, is history!

One of the things I am most passionate about as a homeopath is educating people about the potential uses of homeopathy and empowering them to assume greater responsibility for the health of themselves and their families. I feel extremely privileged to be in a position to support mothers the way that Tina supported me such that I no longer fear illness for me and my family. Not only do I now know how to support us through such times, I place a greater emphasis on being mindful of the importance of a strong and healthy immune system at all times. Our immune system is, after all, THE most important factor in dealing with or avoiding illness in the first place! I firmly believe that appropriate homeopathic remedies along with basic nutrition and sufficient rest help to strength the immune system which in turn provides both protection and resilience against disease and illness.

My 2 year old daughter had been experiencing severe eczema since birth. We came to Janice after exhausting all the market creams and GP consultations. Janice was very thorough with her questions while creating a relaxed atmosphere. We found her very knowledgeable and understanding. After a month on her therapies we could already see an improvement in my daughter’s skin and demeanor. By our third appointment my daughter had very little eczema and we have been able to maintain it since then. We are so thankful to Janice.

We found Janice at a time when we were being pressured by conformity, not normally the role I take but sometimes it is hard not to conform when your child is at issue and you are told you must follow protocol. I followed my instinct, not to conform, did my research and was welcomed by Janice who has been invaluable to me ever since. She is kind, strong minded, full of compassion and loves working with children and is passionate about natural remedies, which work. I now have a very strong, healthy little boy who has a great immune system which is being built even stronger with the help of Janice, she comes highly recommended.

I first met Janice in May 2010, having been recommended to me by a family member who spoke very highly of her. Since that first meeting there have been so many huge life events within my family that have been so overwhelming that I struggled to cope and make sense of it all. I believe that this was in no small measure a contributing factor in my having difficulty conceiving and carrying a baby to full term. Janice helped me so much during the dark days and was always there for me with her reassuring empathy and sympathy and occasional homeopathic remedies; she has helped me and my husband make sense of it all and I can now see the bigger picture and I am so much more comfortable with the direction that my life and health is taking. It was in no small measure due to Janice’s help and support that I gave birth to a beautiful baby daughter in December 2011. Janice has been a rock to me and my family and I cannot speak highly enough of her wise counsel that has enabled me and my family to face the future. Our local GP and midwives also have a great respect for Janice and her holistic and homeopathic approach to our well-being and I know that Janice and my medical practitioner will both play a significant and synergistic role together as we prepare to enlarge our family.

We were feeling extremely exhausted and distraught after constant responses from Doctors telling us that the cough our 18 month old daughter had suffered with for over 9 months was ’normal’. She coughed continually through the night, keeping her and us awake, our quality of life as a family was being affected. Then we met Janice. Since our first visit with Janice, our daughter has stopped coughing through the night, she still has a cough but it isn’t anywhere near as chronic as it was before. Janice was professional and understanding, we talked through everything that our daughter had experienced since birth. Our daughter woke up for the first time in 9 months without crying and coughing herself inside out! We aren’t out of the woods yet but with Janice’s initial intervention and the wonderful world of homeopathy our daughter is a different child, she is enjoying herself and not coughing every time she does anything and we are all getting some sleep, much needed to aid our daughters recovery and for our state of mind. . That is priceless! We can’t thank Janice enough for being there, reassuring us, talking us through the treatment and being there at the end of the phone at a moments notice. She is truly a life changing individual. When you feel like no one else is listening and you know that your child just isn’t themselves and isn’t responding to the treatment being dished out by the GPs.. call Janice! The key thing I found was that she fully supports and endorse mainstream treatment where it is needed but will explain how homeopathy will help as well, which demonstrates her professionalism and impartiality to the well-being of the individual she is treating! It really does work, don’t take this is normal or there is nothing more we can do as a response from your GPs... call Janice.
