So who am I?

Hello let me introduce myself, Bridget Smith. Pleased to meet you.

Born and brought up in South Oxfordshire in a family of four girls life was never very quiet. My Mum was the biggest influence on my life and we spent a great deal of time debating the big topics of the day and putting the worlds to rights. She taught me not to judge or label people and all about giving the benefit of the doubt. To look at life from all angles and not to forget, in her words “There’s two sides to a piece of paper never forget that.” As she was extremely well read, and always up-to-date, when my life started going pear shaped she was always there helping to find the right solution for me. She died just before Christmas 2014 and I miss her very much.
Today I live in Hungerford with my amazing husband and 2 crazy collies. Today I am happy and contented and although occasionally I have an “out of sorts” day for the most part I have “no worries” which has become my adopted phrase, hence the name of this website.
It was not always like this. For over 40 years I was on first name terms with, depression, low self-esteem, low/no self-confidence, OCD, fear of going out, fear of staying in, social fears, panic and anxiety attacks happened on a daily basis. I lived with “the Black Dog” permanently following me around. Over the years I tried so many different methods and techniques. Conventional medicine didn’t work. Life oscillated from bearable to the deepest darkest pit. So what happened? In March 2016 NLP and EFT entered my life, thank you Lyn Atkins. By changing my language patterns and my beliefs I was able to re train my brain and look at my life from a totally different perspective. Yes and it was that quick.

So why would you need to come and see a practitioner when both EFT and NLP are such good self-help tools? Well yes it was only me that could make me better and make the change permanent, but I had someone there who taught me how do use both methods. Someone who held me in a safe place and facilitated the healing process, someone who helped me to clear the baggage from my life. Now that I am trained I can be that person for you. There are blocks and defences in our unconscious mind and trying to access them by yourself can feel frightening and dangerous. Sometimes you can have a “feeling” or a glimpse of a memory and you don’t know why but you know they’re significant and if you could un block them then life would be better.
Past events that are still emotionally charged and dictate your life but you wish they didn’t. Habits/addictions that you’d rather not have anymore. All traumas in our life whether they have a little t (a look from a parent when you were a child, or an off the cuff remark from a friend that hurt you) or a big T (accident, rape, abuse) can change our outlook on life, how we feel about ourselves. A practitioner can give you a different perspective and help you to find all aspects of the beliefs that you have in your life.
So whether you have a fear of something (spiders, flying, heights, small spaces etc.), a habit/addiction/cravings you’d like to kick, anxiety/panic attacks, low self-esteem, lack in confidence, obsessions/compulsions, grief, guilt, stress, insomnia, pain that needs managing or traumatic memories that need the emotional imprint removed. NLP/EFT can help you. In this modern world in which we live we are all aware of the effect of stress on our lives. We know we need to be more mindful in order to counter act that stress…..we know we need to eat better, drink/smoke less and exercise….we know that we should “live for the moment”. Knowing is one thing but doing is easier said than done.

I also qualified with the American Board of NLP as a certified practitioner.

EFT Emotional Freedom Technique or Tapping

With its roots being found in ancient Chinese medicine and the modern science of Applied Kinesiology EFT, as we know it today, was developed in the 1990’s by Gary Craig. Since then the technique has been refined so that it is easier to use and even more powerful.
This is a simple to use and easy to learn tool that works on the basis that emotional upset produces interference in the normal energy flow through the meridians. If you tap on the points where those meridians surface, use carefully worded affirmations the interference can be reduced and the emotional charge leaves with it. The memory is left intact and the result is usually permanent. Shifting the emotional charge often allows the physical healing mechanism of the body to work more effectively, so the physical symptoms may also be resolved along with the emotional ones.
The wonderful thing about EFT is that you don’t have to believe in it for it to work! You don’t have to understand any of the above explanation just do it and see the results for yourself… It is a very gentle procedure with rarely any side effects, any that are experienced are usually positive ones as in treating one problem will cause another to disappear on its own. Usually you feel energised after a session.
Once all aspects of the problem have been identified and dealt with EFT is almost always long lasting. Physical healings are also often impressive but they can re-emerge if not all the emotional aspects have been dealt with appropriately.


Neuro Linguistic Programming NLP

Developed by Richard Bandler and John Grinder, who studied the great therapists of their day and the language patterns and skills they used, NLP can be used by anyone who is wanting to change or improve any aspect of their life.

Linguistic – language and nonverbal communication systems through which neural representations are coded, ordered, and given meaning. Programming – the ability to organise our communication and neurological systems to achieve specific desired goals and results.”

The mind is a very powerful entity and recent advances in neuroscience have given us a new understanding of the brain. Most people have heard of the fight, flight or freeze response to a situation -something happens and you immediately have to take the decision as to should you fight? run(flight) or freeze? The decision is made in a nano second, as your life may depend upon it, after all if a tiger walked into the room you haven’t got time to go into the ins and outs of which course of action to take! So the brain has developed that super highway to deal with such a situation. The trouble is that the brain is just as capable of building a super highway (or 2 or 3 or…..) that is unique to you depending on events in your life and your reactions to them. It may start as a small response, a small highway, but each time you respond in that way the highway gets bigger/stronger/faster. So you need to go into a shop. Bang. Anxiety attack. You see a spider. Bang. Fear. You’re trying to lose weight and you see a bit of cake. Bang. MUST eat it! Your brain built the highway. It thinks it’s doing you a favour. If you built it you can destroy it and build a different one too, that leads to a better, more positive outcome.
