About James Stewart

Welcome to my profile. As a genuine person I permit freedom to explore your true ’self.’ Empathically, I aim to point sensitively to the ’felt meaning’ experienced in the moment, whist adopting the attitude, "I will accept all of you as you are."

"What I offer"
As a fully qualified Person Centred Counsellor (Diploma (H.E.) in Therapeutic Counselling) I offer emotional support to persons aged over 16 years. The service offered is a talking, non-directive therapy. I am a member of and work within the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapists (B.A.C.P) Ethical Framework for Good Practice (information available upon request).

I have extensive experience working (Organisational - Leeds Mind; Own Private Practice) alongside adults suffering from mental health issues, in addition to persons experiencing lesser extreme adversities in life. However, individually all experiences have their own emotional impact, thus, all are treated as uniquely important. Within practice I offer you a private space whereby confidentiality is considered paramount.

My experience to date enables greatness in diversity to counsel both male and female clients who may find themselves experiencing such adversity as: Depression, Anxiety, Addiction, Relationship issues, loss of identity, low self-esteem and many other.

"How I work"
As a Client Centred Counsellor I permit freedom within a contained (confidential) setting to explore your true ‘self’ – to gain an understanding of who you are as a person. Empathically, I aim to point sensitively to the ‘felt meaning’ experienced in the moment; truly care, by means of accepting you as an individual, whilst embracing a sense of true genuineness. It is within such a therapeutic relationship I intend to create conditions that will hopefully help you explore all presenting issues.

At core, I believe the key to the healing process, the power and control, resides with you. For within yourself is a vastness of resource for self-healing, for altering self-concept, your attitudes, and self directive behaviour – for I believe “it is you who knows what hurts, what directions to go, what problems are crucial and what experiences have been buried deeply." Therefore, I believe you to be the expert.

It is with the very essence of ‘trust’ experienced within another that you - the client, are truly able to open up to your own experiences – learning to ‘trust’ them. Without such a depth of trueness in ‘trust’, I believe, you may well deny yourself of becoming a ’trustworthy’ being.

"Why come to counselling?"
As an individual you may experience problems in living, whereby you find it challenging to resolve such difficulties. As a result, you find that such problematic situations prevent you from getting on with your life. As these issues grow in size, becoming both painful and troublesome, you may find it difficult to talk through such anxieties with close friends and family, fearing you may not be heard, you will be judged and or more painfully - rejected.

Subsequent to such added distresses, if you are feeling the need to ‘talk things through’ in hope to channel new direction within an unbiased setting, why not look towards a person who is, at core, genuine, who will not only try to accurately perceive your world as you perceive it - sensing all your emotion(s) and depth of meaning(s) without ever loosing the ‘as if’ condition – ‘as if’ I were the one hurting, but who also adopts the attitude of, “I’ll accept all of you as you are”

Further Information

Let’s begin therapy... Let’s "talk!"

Firstly, may I say thank you for taking the time to view my profile.

All there is to do now is decide whether or not the service I offer is one that may help you to explore the "felt meaning(s)" that you are experiencing in the moment. Should you feel that I may be able to support you, do feel free to telephone or email any question, as I will be happy to answer all. Following your initial inquiry, a suitable venue - room, time and date will be pre-booked, in Mirfield (on site parking) or Leeds City Centre, upon which start of therapy will begin. So when you feel ready to "talk", I will make myself available.
