About Olive Tree Counselling

My name is Samina Latif.

My theoretical training began as humanistic counselling with a shift towards psychodynamic counselling and elements of CBT. For the last seven years I have been undertaking ongoing training and helping people with anxiety, stress, eating disorders, anger, depression, low self esteem, bereavement, loss, trauma, suicidal thoughts, mental abuse, sexual abuse, OCD and self harm.

I believe that there can be a place, where we can travel the road to explore what has happened, where we are at and what might come. Olive Tree Counselling can provide you with a non judgemental and safe place to be able to resolve conflicts and gain control of your life.

I would be happy to have an informal chat to discuss how counselling can help you effectively overcome obstacles, build resilience and increase self esteem in your day to day life.

I serve the areas of Hounslow, Heston, Isleworth, Twickenham and Richmond and the surrounding areas.

We all have really busy and hectic lives, but sometimes it becomes really hard to cope especially when things happen to make us feel low or depressed. At those times the help of friends, family or colleagues may not be enough or even what you need.

It’s at this point that talking things through with a counsellor can help. I can be there for you when you feel that there is no one around who understands what it’s like being you.

Using my experience and knowledge I aim to help you gain control of your life. Together we can explore what has brought you to therapy, learn how experiences and behaviours have shaped the decisions that you make today. Develop an insightful and personal way to change and finally build and maintain resilience for life.

Through empathy and respect I would like to give you the space to find yourself and be happy.
The way I work is through a blending of the Humanistic and Psychodynamic approach with some CBT. All of these words can be daunting when choosing the right counsellor and I hope to make this clearer.

My training, work experience and any achievement

I am a fully qualified counsellor registered with the accreditation organisation BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists). I also hold a current enhanced CRB check to work with children and young people. I follow the ethical framework set out by the BACP.

Further Information

Humanistic approach

The Humanist approach concentrates on being real in the relationship. The core aspects follow the principle that through respect, empathy and understanding all people can begin the journey of healing. This therapy really tries to get to the heart of what is needed in the therapeutic relationship between you and the counsellor to make healing possible. When we are not real we can become stuck and unable to connect with ourselves. This way of looking at yourself can help you form better relationships with yourself and others.

Psychodynamic approach

The Psychodynamic approach focuses on uncovering past experiences to enable you to understand where your desires and behaviours come from. This process allows you to actively change unconscious ways of behaving. The originator of this type of therapy was Sigmund Freud. He is considered to be the father of psychoanalysis as all talking therapies have developed from his model. The benefit of this type of therapy is that it has been tried and tested over a long period of time and is still useful today.

CBT approach

The CBT approach concentrates on all the negative ways that you are holding yourself back and dealing with your situation. It helps you to change your internal language and choose more healthy and positive paths. This can be a very powerful approach to all problems and change can be rapid.

Initial Session and Additional Sessions
£50

In the first session the counsellor will explore what goals you would like to achieve through therapy and begin to understand what is happening for you at the moment. We can discuss what support you have in place and how this can be improved. It also gives me a chance to explain how the sessions work, give you a chance to ask questions. Although I hope that exploring all these areas will be a continuous part of the work.

I provide both short term counselling, which usually involves 6–12 sessions, and long term more in depth psychotherapy.
