About Cognitive Behavioural Therapy & Counselling Service

DR. FRANCIS SELEMO

OVER 20 YEARS POST-QUALIFICATION EXPERIENCE

Welcome. I am Dr Francis Selemo. I’m an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) psychotherapist and a chartered and registered clinical psychologist. I have private, public and voluntary sector experience with adults, children, young people and the elderly mental health and humanitarian crisis as a therapist and psychologist. I am also a clinical supervisor, trainer and healthcare manager overseeing therapists’, other clinicians’, support workers’, teams’ and organizations’ delivery of psychosocial and psychological interventions to clients and staff. I help with organisational and workplace wellbeing.
My focus includes abuse and neglect, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), substance dependence and staff wellbeing, as well as the specific difficulties faced by immigrants, Arab, Black, Eastern European, Christian, Moslem and business men and women. I believe in the recovery model that people can heal or cope with emotional difficulties. Example, 192 specific issues treated with CBT in 2014. Successful recovery rates-95 to 100% for 142 issues, 80 to 94% for 49 issues, and -50% for 1 issue on psychometric measures.

What to Expect
An initial assessment session helps you to discover if you feel comfortable with me, discuss what concerns you, ask questions, clarify confidentiality, and decide if therapy may benefit you.

REFERRALS
I take self-referrals and instructions/referrals from family members, doctors, solicitors, health insurers, employers, Social Services, case management companies, NHS, schools, and members of the public.

NOTE
I work within a recovery philosophy and open to learning new approaches with S.M.A.R.T. therapeutic end goals towards recovery and reintegration of the service user into community and work life. Example, ‘the client will be able to drive for 25 miles distances towards her office without reporting panic attacks within 12 weeks of starting CBT’. My service provision through Health City (www.healthcity.org.uk) includes free awareness education on psychological/emotional wellbeing to enable families/clients decide right choices of service and 15 minutes general consultation to explore areas of needs. My services are offered in a safe cultural, faith, social and professional environment and with a collaboratively developed ‘Wellbeing Plan’. The ‘Wellbeing Plan’ looks at the past, the present and the holistic dreamed/expected future that covers emotional, physical health, financial and legal wellbeing for the individual and the family (depending on what area a client is seeking help and what factors may be contributing or maintaining his/her reported psychological difficulty).
